Ultra-fast camera allows you to look around the corner

    On Habré already wrote about the video camera created in MIT, capable of shooting with a shutter speed of 1 trillionth of a second. Scientists have recently developed a way to shoot around the corner with this camera and laser.

    The laser emits light pulses of a few femtosecond duration. These pulses are reflected, scattered and part of the photons enters the camera lens. Due to the fact that the camera has a temporal resolution of 2 picoseconds (during this time a photon flies about 0.6 millimeters), it is possible to determine how far the reflected photons have traveled. By slightly changing the direction of the laser beam, you can collect enough data to recreate a three-dimensional picture of an object hidden around the corner. Details are on video:
