Selectel tour: DC "Berzarina"

DC Berzarina is our only data center in Moscow. It is organized similarly to our other data centers - a cold corridor, from where the equipment takes cold air, the temperature-controlled space around it (hot corridor), from where the air conditioners take air for cooling (drain cleaning, etc. - all this is “air conditioning” ) and released back into the cold.

    ( alternative link )

Consists of one very long server room, inside of which there is a long cold corridor (2x40 cabinets). In this, it differs somewhat from the device of the remaining DCs, where there are several corridors. The photo shows how we save heat cold.

On the left you can see the stubs in place of the missing servers, on the right - the film covering the entire unused cabinet. The film is more effective than plugs, but it is used only for shielding completely unused racks. Although, of course, it does not look pathetic, to put it mildly.

Traditionally, the bottom supply of cold air is used, the holes are only where this air is needed. By the way, in the previous post I was mistaken - the height of the raised floor is already a meter, not half a meter.

Entrance from two sides (in the photo there is a door to a cold corridor, the server itself is completely closed to serious metal doors): View of the hot corridor. On the left are server cabinets, on the right are industrial air conditioners that take air from the hot “around”, cool it and drive it under the floor. The horizontal cable channel is visible from above.

And this is what the “naked stand” looks like. Please note - 4 units are "wasted" for the sake of electrical outlets, another 3U are occupied by machine guns and electrical wiring. Total in the cabinet 42U, payload - 35U. As readers most likely noticed, this DC was not completely loaded, and yes, this is a hint .

    Fire systems

In contrast to the DC at Tsvetochnaya, only support engineers and security officers are on duty at Berzarin. So an automatic fire extinguishing system is required. Of course, it’s gas (do you say someone is mentally prepared to have their server extinguished with powder). By the way, in the same photo you can assess the height of the raised floor - the door to the room is at the height of the "real" floor "- and a staircase leads upstairs. To lift weights, the second entrance (on the left in the photo) is used, where there is no staircase, but it is possible to use the loader Through These nozzles feed gas into a cold corridor and then, under its own pressure and with the help of server fans, spreads into the equipment and into the hot corridor.

    Security

Traditionally, video surveillance, access to each room with RFID cards (I was there once, and I can say that the impression is depressing - you can’t even get to the toilet without a card from the room for duty personnel). Access to the server room is provided using a fingerprint reader. I can’t say that this greatly increases the reliability of the system (see the corresponding Mythbusters series ), but once done, we use it. Note that without a card, you still can’t get into the server room.

    Cooling

This is Uniflair TDCV2700A - precision air conditioners. When possible, we use freecooling (cooling the refrigerant in the chillers with outside air), since the weather in Moscow allows us to do this for most of the year. Air conditioners are reserved according to the N + 1 scheme.

    Electricity

Yellow pipes lead to gas cylinders (behind screens). The air conditioner is primitive, but the reason is simple: the task of the uninterruptible is to keep the server room while the diesels start. For this, the air in the room should be cold, and the air conditioner will be turned off (as it is powered by uninterruptible power supplies). As soon as the diesels turn on, the air conditioner also turns on, cooling the results of the uninterrupted operation. This is General Electrics SG-CE PurePulse S1, only 6 pieces. They are combined into two groups, in each group 2 main and one backup (N + 1 reservation). In total, the DC provides 800 kW of power. One of the diesel generators: diesel as diesel. Two starters, two own batteries for starting:

    Optics and communication channels

Optical channels are used to communicate with the world. There are two inputs to the data center, both through the wells. Of course, different wells. Optics goes up to MMTS-9 (96 fibers), the same up to M10. Gigabit channel connects Berzarin with our network in St. Petersburg. Uplinks: Retn, TeliaSonera.
