WiFi-AC - the next generation of Wi-Fi
The well-known manufacturer Broadcom plans in the second half of next year to begin selling chips that implement Wi-Fi wireless technology according to the IEEE 802.11ac standard.
A number of technological improvements to achieve a data transfer rate of 1.3 Gb / s and a wider coverage range of up to 200 m are as follows: using a bandwidth of 5 GHz, which is less busy, and thus more resistant to interference; special technology of "beam-forming" (beam-forming), which allows the router to more optimally direct radio waves; use of several antennas.
Broadcom Vice President Mobile Technologies and Wireless Communications Rahul Patel(Rahul Patel) described the new technology compared to the rest, noting that WiFi-AC would be a cheaper alternative to Wireless HDMI, which although faster but still quite expensive to use, is also better than WiGig, which offers a speed of 6 GB / sec, however, on a narrower area of coverage.
Another important improvement is the fact that WiFi-AC chips will be more carefully treated with rechargeable devices, since it will also use energy-saving technologies recently announced in the new Broadcom BCM20730 Bluetooth chip .
Nothing is known about the prices of the new chips.
