Copyright and server at hetzner.de

A curious incident has recently occurred. On vefire.ru there was a link to a video from ruTube. Copyright holders contacted hetzner ( Hervé Lemaire , owner of LeakID, an anti-piracy company) and asked to resolve this issue. Hetzner blocked the site. Agree with the support for a long time did not work. Now it was turned on temporarily, only for the opportunity to move from them. The whole story is described here .

I was excited by a similar case, the fact is that I have several servers on hetzner, I think like many readers of the Habr. But not only my projects are hosted there, but also the projects of my clients and friends. In addition, one of the sites is filled only by visitors. What to expect? I decided to clarify this question firsthand:] And wrote in support of hetzner:

Good afternoon! Not so long ago there was a case when you banned a site for a link to a ruTube video, which was against the copyright law. Therefore, I have a question. I rent some of your servers and now I'm planning to by one more. These servers have not only my projects, but the projects of my friends and clients. What will happen if some of them add something of this kind to my server? I am ready to remove such materials and deny hosting to the sites that break the copyright laws. Is it possible that my server can be banned?

I understand that not everyone knows English, so a free translation:

Recently, there was a case when you blocked the site for a link to the ruTube video, which violated copyrights. In this connection I have a question. I rent a server from you and plan to buy another one of these days, they host not only my projects, but also the projects of my friends and clients, what will happen if one of them places this? I am ready to delete such materials and refuse to host sites that violate copyright. Will my server be blocked?

The guys answered as always promptly:

If we receive complaints or a notice that one of your servers is hosting copyrighted material, we will first contact you to resolve the issue. If you remove the material then nothing will happen. However, if you fail to respond within 24 hours then we will most likely block the IP / server. As soon as you have then removed the material the server will be unblocked.

And here’s also a free translation:

If we receive a complaint or warning regarding copyrighted material located on one of your servers, we will first contact you to resolve this issue. If you delete the material, then nothing will happen. However, if you cannot respond within 24 hours, we will most likely block the IP / server. As soon as you delete the material we will unlock the server.

Sorry for the translation, I did not quite articulate it exactly, but conveyed the thought.

In any case, the precedent has been created, and it looks more like burning a car for parking in the wrong place. Watch the content.
