Once we already talked about the new features of ABBYY Lingvo x5 in this blog. Then it was the look of the translator, but today we want to dwell in more detail on one of the new features implemented in the latest version of our dictionaries - hover translation. We even shot a special video about her:
So, now Lingvo translates words from any text on the screen, even if it is not text for the operating system itself. In other words, our electronic dictionary has learned to translate words from pictures, videos, as well as interface elements - buttons, captions and window names. To do this, we use our technology of optical text recognition (OCR), which "sees" the text and then recognizes it.
In fact, in addition to the obvious advantage that users received - translating words from various graphics, they also lost a serious headache. Thanks to the recognition function in the new version of ABBYY Lingvo x5, hover translation works in all browsers and will not stop working in them when the next update is released! And not only in browsers. If you regularly use programs for working with PDF documents or read books in djvu format, everything will be translated into them too. The function, you see, is useful. With us, it was the first priority.
In addition, special dictionaries have appeared for guidance translation, in which translations are sorted by frequency of use. Thus, when you try to get a translation by guidance, you will be shown the most common translation, which in most cases will be correct. If desired, a special dictionary can be easily disabled in the settings (menu Tools-> Settings , tab "Translate words from text").
And one more improvement: Lingvo x5 pop-up translation perceives not only single words, but also whole phrases:
This function can slow down the pop-up translation somewhat, therefore it is made disabled: just uncheck the settings. And if necessary, you can always turn it on.
