The fate of old electronics
A number of employees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) created the BackTalk project , whose task is to investigate the fate of electronic devices that their owners considered obsolete and replaced them with new ones. During the project, researchers added GPS mini-transmitters to the gadgets and tracked where mobile phones, batteries, and printer cartridges get.
As a result, it was concluded that during transportation, electronic devices do much more harm to the environment than directly disposing of them on site.
