Navigation: Bad Tips

I am an old motorist, and I do not know words of love for manufacturers of navigation programs. I have a long-standing feeling that manufacturers making navigation software are unlikely to ever drive a car and, of course, do not enjoy the fruits of their own labor. It was for them that I wrote bad advice.

    1. Create the control that the programmer designed. Or a person who thinks like a programmer. For him, this is obvious, and the rest will get used to it.

    2. The main thing is translucent buttons. It is fashionable and cool. The driver must peer at the map. Why should I display the distance, next rotation or enlargement of the map in normal font? Better to make them translucent!

    3. Autoscale is fun. Indeed, if you drive 63 km per hour, this is crazy speed, literally a highway. Under no circumstances should the auto scale shut off automatically in the city. Who needs it, this will turn off the menu, something. Racing harms your health, the optimal speed is just over 30 km / h.

    4. When planning a map, discard permanent traffic jams. Routing should be extremely convenient for the computer, and not for the driver. For example, in St. Petersburg it is best to build a route along Nevsky or Sadovaya Street. Quays must be ignored!

    5. Burn in hell to someone who ties the card to the time the driver moves. It is very difficult, and uncomfortable. You need to know the current traffic jams - turn on the mobile Internet, it’s not so expensive!

    6. Voice must communicate everything. Gas station, attractions, school areas, traffic police posts, shops. Indeed, those who do not need this information will turn them off on their own, digging a little in the menu.

    7. The designer knows the color palette perfectly. For example, highlight a route with checkmarks, or orange against a yellow background. So it’s not annoying and fun.

    8. Why include redundant route alerts? For example, for 300 meters, 500 or 50? Just select one of the alerts. Either for 300, or for 500, or for 50!

    9. Voice warning “Battery low” is best repeated every 40 seconds. Either get tired and turn off the navigator, or turn on charging. The driver is an idiot, you have to remind all the time.

    10. Absolutely correct message - "Turn right, then turn right." It is very convenient for the driver. Like the messages, "Keep left; after 400 meters, keep right." Or display a graphical rotation in the corner of a 4 inch screen. It is not necessary to display graphics in full screen, because the driver will be annoyed. He wouldn’t see the rest of the route at the moment!

    11. And the last. Traffic jams need to be drawn with red lines throughout the current map. And be sure to indicate the flow rate. So that a scarlet card is obtained. To recommend a flashing green line, the traffic jam detour route is superfluous, especially in advance.
