For the first time, Facebook has seen negative dynamics in the number of users in the USA and Canada

Until recently, there was a lot of news on the web about new Facebook achievements in terms of increasing the number of users. There is nothing to be surprised - after all, it was Facebook that first registered 500 million users in 2010. Then, in a few weeks, the number of users exceeded 700 million people. Mark Zuckerberg spoke of a billion. However, a billion may remain a pipe dream, an unattainable goal. The fact is that the dynamics of growth in the number of users of this social network has recently shown growth, but not as significant as before.

So, if we take the "average temperature in the hospital", then in May, 11.8 million people registered on Facebook, in April - 13.9. Last year, the average monthly user growth rate was 20 million. In principle, there is a difference, but not very significant. However, if we take the dynamics of user growth in different countries, you can see an interesting picture.

So, in May, Facebook received 1 million users from countries such as Mexico, India, Brazil, Indonesia, and the Philippines. However, in the same month, social network No. 1 lost about 6 million users in the United States and 1.5 million users in Canada. As you can see, in those countries where Facebook received an initial increase in users, there is now an outflow of previously active members of the “Facebook society”. Experts do not yet explain the reason for such a significant loss of user base in the United States and Canada.

But now assumptions are being made that Facebook has reached the peak of its development, and in the future there will be a slowdown in the increase in the number of users. It may well be that now Zuckerberg’s main task will not be to build up a user base, but to retain old users. In any case, a billion Facebook users are starting to seem an increasingly less attainable goal.
