Amazon's bestseller Death Machine licensed under Creative Commons

This happened earlier with music albums , when putting out a work of open access did not harm the current sales of goods. The authors of the Death Machine clearly understood this. They explained why the anthology of science fiction stories about people who know how they die (but don’t know when) was made available on the CC BY-NC-ND network :

Why are we doing this? Are we not worried that it will hurt the sales of this book?

In a word: no. You have proven time and time again that you are willing to pay for content that you find valuable. You have shown that you are ready to share the material you fell in love with. And we strive to ensure that you can get acquainted with our work, regardless of whether you have the opportunity to buy a book or not; regardless of whether you live in the country where Amazon delivers or not; regardless of whether there is a place in your life for a pile of paper or not.

In addition, some selected stories are licensed under CC BY-NC-SA., which allows you to translate and adapt the work as long as you comply with the non-profit condition and release derivative works under the same license.
