Google introduced for Linux support for voice and video in GTalk

Google has announced the implementation of support for the Linux platform for voice and video chat in the GTalk service (available in Gmail, iGoogle and orkut). The XMPP and RTP protocols are used for data transfer in the chat; the video stream is transmitted in the H.264 format.

For new features to work, a specially prepared plug- in must be installed in the browser , which is currently only available for Ubuntu and other Debian-based distributions. RPM packages promise to be published soon. The plugin supports installation in Firefox 2.0+, Opera and Google Chrome.
