Nested labels in Gmail
A quick search did not bring articles on its wings mentioning the appearance of this beautiful feature in Gmail (which is strange). However, it is something that I personally have long been lacking. Namely, the ability to make nested labels and, accordingly, filter letters with the assignment of these labels.
I always wondered why they didn’t, and here you are - it hangs in labs. Moreover, an article on Google about this feature is dated already Thursday, April 08, 2010. The
brief English content is as follows:
" Manage your email by sorting it into a hierarchy of labels. Add slashes (/) to label names to express inheritance. For example, if you want a Home label with two child labels named Kids and Shopping, create the three following labels: Home, Home / Kids and Home / Shopping. "
UPD : for the sensible recommendation of spmbt , I add a brief Russian-language version (slightly corrected):
If you think this may be useful for you, go to the “Gmail Labs” tab in the “Settings” section, look at “Nested Labels”, turn it on and Click the “Save” button. After that, you need to name your label with the inclusion of a slash (/) to make it a descendant of another label. For example, suppose you wanted to create a simple hierarchy of “Home” labels, with “Family” and “Vacation” nested. In this case, simply create labels with the following names:
Home
Home / Family
Home / Vacations
In general ... one of the coolest additions to gmail, in my humble opinion.
PS: tried to create (from the filter) labellabel / foo when label-foo was already said that label / foo already exists. Deleted label-foo - created fine.
PPS: others say the feature has been seen before and I'm so unenlightened. Say pliz if so - I'll put it out of sight as unnecessary evidence of personal life backwardness.
