The early days of Intel Summer School 2010

    image

This week, Intel 2010 Summer School began . Moreover, for each it began in a different way. In the corridors of the Nizhny Novgorod office one could meet interns with thoughtful, amazed, or bewildered faces; organizers who watched as the giant machine Intel Summer School 2010 began to work; anxious mentors and admins who tried to "guess" their trainee. The only people who were not visible were IT storekeepers, but more on that below. In this regard, I asked everyone to share their impressions of the first days of school. Under the cut, see what happened.

Maria Oseeva, Intel Summer School Program Manager:
“This year, with the participation of all five Intel offices in Russia, our first day of Intel Summer School turned out to be like a rocket launch into space.
6 am in Moscow: “the first step was undocked” - the Novosibirsk office hospitably opened its doors.
9 am in Moscow: “the second stage has begun” - we met the summer interns of the Nizhny Novgorod and Sarov offices.
10 am in Moscow: “the third stage was separated” - Moscow and Peter awoke, who are also happy to welcome new young employees.
And we watched the whole process like the Central Flight Control and dreamed that the launch would go without worries and disasters. No catastrophes - quite real, no worries - never! The organization of the Summer School hides the work of about 100 Intel specialists from all over Russia and at least 4 months of the organizing committee’s daily work in order to make such a colossus interact seamlessly.

The first day is always the most difficult in terms of format, because it needs to be balanced and comfortable from a business and human point of view: a little solemnity, friendly official acquaintance, the passage of mandatory procedures, explanation of internship tasks, informal communication, etc.

In general, I am more than satisfied with the start of school. Yes, it didn’t do without overlays, someone didn’t come or didn’t arrive on time, someone didn’t meet someone, something remained slightly unprepared, but we flexibly “outplayed” it, completed it, took it by the hand and made sure that no further lost. Before lunch time in worries and corrections passed quickly, and after lunch the countdown began - a beautiful birthday cake was eaten by the trainees and mentors of the Novosibirsk office, the students left Sarov office for evening rest, and so on.

The best part about the first day is that it has an inevitable property to end, and then it’s easier. ”

    Evgeny Kholodkov, IT storekeeper:
“ I work as an inn store client service as an IT storekeeper.
Preparing for a summer school is a huge load when looking for a bunch of “not fresh” equipment. It's all the same for 2 months in total. What is needed is urgently sought. As a result, our cube looks like a beehive. And this is only preparation for the summer school.
Everything seems to be ready. During this time, everyone is already on their ears, and most importantly, there is no mistake anywhere, otherwise there will be huge problems with the delivery of iron.
Well, and the first day. Below are a bunch of young people, someone is serious, someone is smiling.
One can only hear the door open with a beeping sound and a voice sounds: “Next ...”
This is a pass for schoolchildren. We are all starting to giggle nervously.
It is very good that this time the curators divided the students into parties of 4 people each. So everything should go more smoothly, and not like 2 years ago, when a crowd of people stunned by the impressions flooded the entire floor and all the aisles, not responding to requests to come in turn.
    The first four ...
Engineers begin their work, the first hour is difficult. This is very similar to ping pong.
The engineer twitches between the new ones, alternately pressing buttons and instructing, his eyes are already wild and poorly understanding what, apparently the program has turned on.
After an hour and a half, the pace becomes slower, the actions are worked out. Pupils with happy faces receive laptops and phones.
So it will be 2 days. And then requests for something else will be showered. And just as massively.
Well, nothing, we don’t get used to it, we are client service. ”

And now, let’s listen to the interns.

    Dmitry Pavlov, city of Ivanovo:
“I hasten to share my impressions of the first days of the summer school of intel.
Finally, what I have been waiting for so long has come ... The Intel Summer School began its work, and I, like 20 other lucky ones, had the chance to try and see inside the life of the huge Intel company. To say that the first days will be remembered for a very long time and that I was just stunned and pleasantly surprised is to say nothing. From the very first minutes, a clear organization of the registration process for summer schoolchildren was struck. And the first lectures, I think, did not leave anyone indifferent. I have never met lecturers who could so skillfully, funnyly and in constant contact with the audience talk about seemingly boring things such as safety precautions in the workplace, and so that the whole audience was rolling with laughter. In addition, working in a team with people with tremendous experience and knowledge, It gives a special pleasure and desire to learn and learn something new. The company’s friendly attitude towards the new arrivals and the atmosphere prevailing inside the company were also striking. I think you already realized that Intel is a great place to work, study, professional and grow, and much more ... "

    Alyoshkov Ilya Rybinsk, Yaroslavl Region:
“I will talk about people, and that other people will say that NN is beautiful.
I want to start with a really first impression. As we approach the departure, calls from various Intel employees became more frequent. From each came interest, sincere warmth. After each such call, I was convinced that I did not dream of all this. The expectation of something incredible grew. And so it turned out - everything here is unusual, interesting, fun and convenient. It is very nice in the morning to walk from the hostel to the office. It is unusual to use a very familiar, but now also licensed software. It's fun to speak a mixture of Russian with English.
We have already made friends with the guys, but we are still confusing the names. ”

    Dmitry Tikhonkih, Chelyabinsk:
“The first day at Intel was very busy for me. It seemed that several days had passed, and not one. A lot of new information arrived, which I then sorted through and realized all evening. The impressions are only positive, the jobs are wonderful, all the staff are attentive and friendly people. Free coffee on the floors is a little captivating. At the end of the first day there was a tea party, on which we better learned about each other. A lot of positive impressions! "

    Sergey Vedernikov, Sarov:
" I want to talk about my first day at Intel Summer School. A lot of new information. Everything around is interesting! The tasks that employees work on, how they interact with each other. And most importantly - they took me on a topic that I wanted to get on! I think there will be many cool moments ahead of our internship at Intel!
Yes, I also wanted to note the safety training. We were really scared, but it was fun! ”

    Dmitry Maryin, Ufa:
“ Having not yet arrived at the company’s office, you already get an incredibly pleasant impression, thanks to the attitude of the organizers and HRs towards you, as a full-time employee who is always ready to answer your question, information accompanying you. In a word, the attitude can be described as friendly. The same atmosphere prevails in the office itself.
Jobs made in the form of work cubes allow you to better focus on work and not be distracted by the environment. It is also worth noting the increased attention to employee health safety, information protection. It is evident that the company is trying to do everything possible to make the employee more comfortable and enjoyable. ”

    Victor Getmansky, Volgograd:
“A trip to Intel is a unique chance for me to feel like an employee of a large and serious company developing advanced computing technologies. I was very pleased when I received a positive response to my third application for participation. To become Intel's summer schoolboy means to be among the best people from different universities of Russia, who got the opportunity to try their hand at real projects. After arrival, we immediately joined the team, met our neighbors on the floor in the hostel, walked to the Kremlin and by the end of the day returned as a friendly company, in which everyone was looking forward to a new day - the first day at Intel. We really liked Nizhny Novgorod. In summer, the weather is nice and nature is very beautiful. In addition, there are many historical monuments. It is no accident that it is here that there are the most places in the Intel summer school. On the first day of work, we were met by Intel employees. The reception was hospitable, introductory lectures were held by experienced employees of the company. They talked with wit and humor, so everyone liked it. At the end of the day, they arranged an evening of acquaintances, where everyone learned about the talents of everyone else. In addition, we were introduced to former summer students who became Intel employees. They shared their impressions with us and immediately made it clear that in addition to work, many interesting activities await us. With our mentor, Kirill Mavrodiev, we quickly found a common language. He, too, once passed a summer school and told us himself all the key points of passing the summer school. Most of all I was pleased with the flexible schedule, teamwork and free tea and coffee in the corridor of the office building!

Finally, I want to add that we plan to duplicate part of the trainings for Summer students by online seminars. In order for you to have the opportunity to feel like an intern at Intel Summer School 2010.
