Team building features in IT companies

imageThe most common example of team building in any company is, of course, going outdoors. We have a similar successful experience. Everything is as it should be - 100 km from the city, 10 boxes of beer, 10 kg of barbecue, 50 lots to the mafia. The team is built, the task is completed.

But having worked in companies of completely different specializations, you note for yourself some of the special features of an IT company. Firstly, a young team of people with an analytical mindset (the average age of our employees is 24 years old), secondly, the male population significantly exceeds the female population, and thirdly, the close relationship of employees with the computer, which is not the last problem on the path to establishing communications within the work team. Also, an IT company, partly due to the above factors, is distinguished by modernity and flexibility, a free approach to organizing work schedules. An example for everyone was, of course, Google.

Table tennis, a smoking-room, trips to coffee for lunch, mass congratulations on the birthday of employees - this is all there, and this has been written about more than once here. But the specialization of the company leaves certain imprints on the relationships within the team. How to unite a team of 20 young male IT specialists? The question is open, we are waiting for your suggestions. But I know exactly how to rally half of them. Divide them into terrorists and counter terrorists! Counter Strike - the crown of team building! You may not have bad habits or developed communication skills, but if you are able to perforate the head of an enemy from the Desert Eagle from a great distance, you are yours. A heated debate after the battle, over a beer, will finally consolidate success.

The tone of the male team is held by representatives of a rare female. In their presence, the general mood sharply rises, and the number of jokes per unit of time.

There is internal team building. When communications are established by means of Internet services, for example, via ICQ or VKontakte. Sometimes it’s nice to get a link from a colleague to a new clip, or to a video where another moron breaks his neck trying to impress the Internet audience. Actually, I’m not sure that it was necessary to cover this point, since it is partisan, and this “communication tool” is most often not advertised to the authorities.

Given all these “weaknesses,” our specialists cannot be blamed for lack of professionalism or parasitism. The company grows and develops (by the way, it takes 3 programmers, PHP, HTML / JS, MySQL, CSS, preferably CS Source). And Google has already proved the use of such "weaknesses" to everyone. The main thing is not to go too far.

And how are relationships built within your company?
