Web Standards Days Riga
The first time I heard about Web Standards Days from a video filmed at RIT. It was also said that the next event will be held in Riga.
Similar events a la barcamp are often held in Riga. But how much I read reports about them is basically a PR of my projects. Yes, the company itself is going to interesting and you can meet interesting people. But all this is somehow clamped and communication takes place mainly by their groups. Without the opportunity to join a company, go to listen about the next PR product of which I don’t really want to be a complete hub
In this program, I liked the specific focus on certain chips in different technologies.
The meeting program can still be found on the official website. In time, everything went almost without pads. The only shift in the program was due to the large number of questions on mobile devices.
According to the author of the report, about 100 sites were analyzed in various categories during registration for the conference. Basically, the slides were statistics in the form of graphs about what people use on sites. For example, which DOCTYPE is most often used or which charset. Which and how to use it correctly and what it affects.
EM or PX? The percentage of IE is very small in the market and those who enter it do not always know what scalability is. So is it worth suffering because of them?
We will wait for the link to the presentation or video.
The topic perhaps shook the people the most. Mobile devices are increasingly entering our lives. Even a simple phone with a small screen and a mini opera on board is suitable for full use of the Internet. When the iPad will be available, everything will probably change even more dramatically. Many who use it notice for themselves that at home they rarely approach stationary cars.
At the conference, I took with me both a laptop and my old ipod, also with Wi-Fi. As I expected on all sockets in the room was not. But I sat without problems with my IPOD the entire conference. I read twitter, surfed the Internet. Conveniently, does not press a pocket and does not put pressure on a shoulder when you carry a laptop.
It’s not even a question of whether or not to consider the mobile version of your site. If you have an interesting resource, then you need to consider the usability of your site on mobile devices. There is such a thing as finger control, and if you have menus or other links on your site that are very close, this will make it difficult to use the site. It is also worth remembering the problem with flash on mobile devices. With Java scripts, too, do not get too carried away. My project www.schetov.ru with a large number of Java scripts works fine on my iPod, but honestly I have not thought about it as on other mobile devices.
In the presentation, 3 frameworks for developing sites for mobile versions were considered to a greater extent. Pros, cons, examples of use. Everything is very concrete and clear.
If a presentation or video arrives, then all this can be read and appreciated.
The RIT video had a similar theme. It was interesting to learn about the new HTML5 chips. The main thing is that most of these chips do not yet work in many browsers. And in those where it works, it may not seem at all what you expect.

Firebug and everything about it. Pros, cons, useful tips. You can’t say much without presentation and pictures. If you are a developer, then Firebug can reduce the search for errors in code by an order of magnitude.
PR. For what? What for? Questions, but somehow even no one wanted to ask them at the conference.
The book mentioned in the presentation by the way RE: Work. If you read Getting Real, then in this book you will not find so much new, much just copy-past. But the guys from 37 signals are still excellent and the book is read in one go. He puts a lot into place.
Leading against the hall. Interesting thoughts on one side and the other. But the flash still does not make the majority a lot. But everyone agrees that it can also be used if cooked with direct hands.
Will he leave so fast. In my opinion, no. My past job was a flash gambling company. The development of a working prototype of a game with graphics took about a week. It is difficult to imagine how much the same site would occupy on HTML5. And if you need to change the schedule? In HTML you shoot yourself. For the mobile version where the flash does not work, you can make an application for the desired platform.
In America, with Rich Internet Applications, everything seems to be very good too. By Budam podcasts, there is still a good growth trend for this type of application. Conferences and master classes on Flex are constantly held and the number of people on them is not small. But this is just what I see now, the picture may be completely different.
We will wait for the video conference. Details I think will be on the conference website.
