It is enough to drive these lines in google and you will see megabytes of texts with a different type of trolling. Sometimes they come across quite remarkable passages-stereotypes .

Every single day we are faced with this endless confrontation! Techies are constantly indignant over the stupidity or uselessness of the humanitarian, the humanitarian try to defend their need and attack in response. Of course, there are people who are trying to find a compromise and prove the demand for both of them. But ... the next day, everything starts again in a new way.

Creating stereotypes and sticking labels is an excellent mechanism for simplifying reality, which allows you to especially not load the brain. It is especially simple when reality seems dichotomous - positive / negative, one's own / another's, few / many, etc. - our case, as you hopefully understood, is the same.

So, is there any sense in such labels “humanities” and “techies”? Are they useful or are they dangerous?

PS 1. Anticipating the questions: I am well versed in mathematics and IT, while doing music and getting an economic education
    2. There are a lot of letters under the cut, so if you want, you can consider me a “typical humanities”
    3. Before you minus, please first to argue their point of view.

The biggest danger is that this text continues to reproduce an already existing stereotype opposing essences. If you stop talking about it and go about your business, the myth will dissipate and maybe these fictional humanitarian idiots will become smaller. All of which, I’m talking right now, may not seem quite obvious to many, so let's start in order:

It is necessary to somehow operationalize the given concepts and define them. But I must say right away that you will not see a single understanding of the problem anywhere.

The techie is an engineer. Has the ability to exact sciences, Rational.

The humanist is a man of art. Has artistic abilities. Emotional.

You can often see something like this:

Humanitarian thinking is the lack of mathematical. If you cannot solve this diffur, you are a humanist. The humanities are synonymous with boltology.

So the advocates of the humanities will immediately remember:
Thinking of a techie is an inability to express one’s thoughts. If you speak poorly and cannot write a normal essay, then you are a techie.

Looking at the definitions of humanities and techies, you can see that they do not contradict each other.

Do you think that I’ll say right now that it is possible to combine both those and other qualities? Yes, that's right - it really can. But the fact is that most people manage to combine the lack of both mathematical and artistic abilities. They cannot, how to solve the equation, either say or write something beautiful. Moreover, they not only cannot do this - they simply do not need it. When you work as a salesman in a store, as a janitor, a conductor, a security guard, as well as in other 70% of professions, the contrasting humanities / techie just does not make sense to you.

But all this can be forgiven - all these terms are ordinary. However, such thinking creeps into the academic field:
In most cases, we distinguish the humanities, natural and technical sciences. Here, of course, you can already see something new, but the trace of the discussed stereotype on the face.
What is so bad about this classification, you say?

First of all, it does not comply with international standards and practices, which impedes the integration of domestic science into the world scientific community.

The English word "science" in itself, without any prefixes, suggests naturalness and empiricism. It is contrasted with the term “science” - another group of academic disciplines under the general name “humanities” (triad - philology, theology, philosophy). Needless to say, in this context, the very phrase “humanities” is an oxymoron. So remember! The humanities do not exist! You can hear about them only in the post-Soviet space. In this regard, all kinds of opuses like “I'm resentful! How can philology and other human disciplines be considered science? ”Are meaningless.

Everything would be fine, but some time ago a hybrid of “humanities” and “science” appeared - “social science” (which led to the fact that simply “science” had to be renamed to “natural science.” The Soviet tradition did not have such a problem was - everything “non-technical” was pushed into the category of “humanities.” Meanwhile, the so-called “technical sciences” in the West are often not considered sciences, they are simply called “engineering” (some are called “applied science”).

As for the "social sciences", among them there is a very large differentiation. For example, history and law are right on the border between “humanities” and “social science” and often attribution to one or another category will depend on a particular study. There are such disciplines as economics, which often use a rather complicated mathematical apparatus (which, however, are rarely taught at the institute), which rather accurately allows predicting some phenomena.

Conclusion: dividing people into groups into humanities / techies by type of thinking is stupid.
