Birthday COBOL
It turns out that the other day, COBOL and its loyal programmers celebrated an anniversary. 50 years ago, a committee consisting of representatives of the six largest computer manufacturers at that time and three government agencies chose the name COBOL for Common Business-Oriented Language for the new language.
The language survived many of its creators, and even now it is used very widely. Fortunately, or unfortunately, it is almost unknown in Russia, but in the USA, judging by the statistics from Datamonitor, up to 5 million lines of code are written on Kobol annually. The main scope of application is banking, telephone operators, government agencies.
