This topic was born after the next viewing of an article about cloud computing, in which the term " clouds " is used, it seems, in any places where you could insert it. So, after another such article, it seemed to me that some people did not understand at all what the new buzzword “cloudy” means.
I must say that I myself sometimes too much go on about fashion and sin using this term. For example, in my first article on cloud computing, I sometimes inserted it myself, completely not understanding its meaning in that context. Please do not repeat my mistakes.
I have one specific suggestion for everyone: replace the term “cloud” with the adjective “ remote ”.Cloud computing - remote computing - computing that is performed on remote servers with all the advantages and disadvantages arising from this. Cloud Platform - Remote Platform - A platform that allows you to run your applications on a remote server.
By the way, the clouds are not a “modern technological invention” or “a breakthrough in the industry” (I read something like that somewhere). For example, hosting can already easily be called a “cloud platform” (web applications are running), and a remote database is a cloud database (it is located on a remote server).
Also, don’t forget about the already established concepts of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS, which many are now beginning to dump into one cloudy pile, which, of course, is not necessary. A special request for authors of opus articles: please feel the difference and do not confuse the reader.
Fashion, as they say, is a capricious lady. And if cloud concepts have already become fashionable now - it is very important for us IT professionals to clearly understand what is behind them.
