Bing launches visual search

Yesterday at the TechCrunch50 conference, a beta version of a new kind of search in Bing was presented . Visual search allows you to navigate through specified sections.

After selecting a category, the user will be presented with a set of visual representations in descending order of popularity. There are 39 categories in total, there is even a category of the most popular applications for iPhone, and Putin’s photo is presented in the “World Leaders” category.

Under the cut are examples with the contents of the categories, BMW X5, Putin, Medvedev, Obama, chemical elements and my favorite movie The Godfather .

The Greates Movies section will show the following list:

    The Periodic Table Elements Section:

Another World Leaders section will show a list of world leaders:

Of particular interest was the distribution of New Cars:

In this section, new cars are sorted by the first letter of the name; when you hover over an item, the name of the car and some of its characteristics are displayed.

After selecting a category item, the user will be taken to a search result that relates to the selection.

PS: it’s worth considering the status of the beta version, some sections may not work correctly or other failures may occur. A visual search is still under development.
