Your home server. One solution
Hello% username%!
I recently passed the last session (excellent), and decided to make myself a small gift. Namely, update the home server. The idea to use a mat. Intel Atom based board has been around for a long time. And now, just the “lull” in front of the Diploma ...
Well, well, let's start. (Pictures are clickable)
1. Motherboard:
Foxconn 45CSX. Brief Specifications : Supported Processors: Intel® AtomTM dual-core 330 processor mounted onboard Chipset: Intel® 945GC + ICH7 Memory: DDR2 533 MHz x 1 DIMM, Max. 2GB Graphics: Integrated Expansion Slots: 1 * PCI IDE / ATA Support: 2 * SATA II Sound: 5.1 channel HDA by Realtek® ALC662 LAN: 10 / 100M LAN by Realtek® RTL8100C
USB: Up to 6: 4 on the rear panel + 2 ports on the block
Form factor: Mini-ITX (170mm x 170mm)
Why I chose this one is the lack of coolers initially, and the lack of an additional 4 pin power supply. Well, I took the case of the same company, and decided that it would be better to take everything from one company :)
2. Case:
Foxconn RS 338 Brief characteristics: Form factor: MiniITX Power supply: 100-150W (Replaced by a fanless photo below. Reason : NOISE the infection is this: (() External compartments 5.25 ″: 1 External compartments 3.5 ″: 1 Internal compartments 3.5 ″: 1 (here I’m a little thoughtful in a standard hole breaks in hard, but when installing the “carriage "(See photo below) rests on the power supply) USB 2.0 ports on the front panel: 2
Audio
jack on the front panel: 1 Microphone jack on the front panel: 1
Fan: 1 x 80 mm (Removed)
Dimensions (D x W x H), mm: 280x282x95 (7,5L)
More photos: Just unpacked :) Rear view Interior space (A hard drive is placed down, which simply rests against the power supply) "Carriage" for installing 3.5 "and 5.25" devices (view from the side of the motherboard. Power supply ... in short, rear view :) Without removing the muzzle, do not get to the installation of the mat. boards. The "carriage" is removed by loosening 2 screws at the edges. The muzzle is held on the “silver” latches by the first snap off first, and black below. 3. HDD. Samsung HD154UI Brief Features: Capacity: 1.5 TB
Interface: Serial ATA 3.0Gb / with NCQ support
Number of plates: 3
Recording capacity per plate: 500 GB
Buffer: 32 MB
Now the thrill of working. When loading the OS, it is “audible” how it works, when it is working, it is almost silent (the torrent works, distribution is almost continuous).
With hard, I had to do this (install it in the 5.25 "compartment): But this was fixed by installing another PSU (the photo will be at the end). 4. Memory: Memory 2 GB :) The only one I could find was a die from Samsung. 5. BP: I installed such a miracle on 120W without coolers .. No noise: D Result:
In total, we have a good machine for a home server (and a great geek toy) for an acceptable amount of money. All together was bought for 9 thousand rubles (BP was) (of which the hard borrowed 4,500 money). Plus, I delivered a low profile PCI gigabit network card, this action helped to overcome the psychological barrier (there is a hundred-megabit network card on the motherboard) and for me the system has become almost perfect. Purpose: Home NAS, torrent download, dc server (24/7), ftp server, web server. If the topic is interesting, I will describe my choice of OS, why, and how it all turned out in the end. At the moment, almost everything is already set up, except for the web server, since I decided to study other products (I used to work only with Apache) ... Lastly, install the OS :) PS Typos / errors please send in private, THANKS!
UPD Moved to a thematic blog.
UPD2. Changed the photo of the case.
Temperature addition :
The server (for now) is on a shelf with a minimum of space both above and next to it. The ventilation is bad. I measured the temperature with the SpeedFan program and a multimeter (the temperature probe is pushed into the ventilation hole) :)
Results:
1. Multimeter
The temperature inside the case (2 hours of operation) is kept at 27-29 C 2. SpeedFan HDD (2 hours of distribution, torrent downloads, ftp, I drove the files here and there) - 29-32 C CPU - 59-62 C More details can be seen in the screenshot:
