Kingston celebrates its 30th anniversary. And presents several new products at Computex 2017

Hi, Giktayms! The entire Internet is buzzing with news from the Asian exhibition Computex - Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, new platforms, that-that ... But Kingston is 30 years old this year. By the standards of IT, age is not something decent - respectable, since companies in this area do not always keep up with progress - are born, flourish and die in a decade. On its anniversary, Kingston presented a whole galaxy of new products: from the periphery to the classic iron, and believe me, there is something to see.

If someone missed the story of how David Sun and John Tu founded the company with minus one million starting capital in 1987 - you are welcome, the story is really interesting. Well, we will continue a short retrospective.

How textolite was forged and silicon tempered

Back in 1987, it all started with SIMM memory modules, which have become incredibly popular due to absolute reliability. Five years later (in 1993), the company began producing network devices and data warehouses, and a year later released the first drive of the DataTraveler family.

RAM Kingston and HyperX DDR2. Not just antiques, but well-known components among overclocking enthusiasts.

In 2002, the HyperX product line appeared (at that time consisting only of fast RAM). 2003 marked the first USB-drive, and since 2004, Kingston offers a lifetime warranty on memory modules.

Today it’s impossible to imagine Kingston without flash drives and memory cards, and this is how they were in the early years of release.

And this is what Kingston and HyperX looked like in the era of DDR3

Well, then everything - as if in a fog. Events developed rapidly, and the number of products grew like a snowball. The first SSD-drive in 2009, the Wi-Drive wireless storage in the eleventh, in the thirteenth - a hypertribe DataTraveler HyperX Predator with a capacity of 1 TB.

How Kingston from newbies during the crisis became a famous manufacturer (hi-res)

Since 2014, the company entered the gaming peripherals market, starting with a successful line of headsets - HyperX Cloud. The original "Klaudy" with minor modifications produced today in a number of configurations. In the middle of 2016, a minimalist mechanical keyboard for gamers appeared, and 2017 will enter the calendar of corporate achievements along with a 2 TB USB drive. And the story does not end there!

Kingston and HyperX on Computex 2017

Computerova is not the largest exhibition of electronics, but iron producers also love and respect it. For its anniversary Kingston delivered a whole set of new products. Ultra-fast SSD drives, high-speed DDR4 RAM modules, USB drives with built-in encryption, and lots of stuff for players.

    Newest history Kingston (hi-res)

    SSD record breakers

We already managed to tell about one of the presented drives in the blog: Kingston KC1000 is the fastest SSD of the company.

Gamers and SSD lovers in laptops can exhale right now - the new flagship Kingston is designed for use in servers and clever workstations. It’s no joke, 2.7 GB / s in read mode and up to 1.6 GB / s (depending on the drive capacity) in write mode, especially when the Crystal Disk benchmark spun on the demo stand and showed the stated characteristics in real of time. By the way, the disk squeezes out almost all the available bandwidth of the PCI Express 3.0 x4 interface (there are “half-dots” in the region of 3.2 GB / s). Okay, we have already disassembled the KC1000, but have not yet seen the other two GT disks.

The first is the DCU1000, which has not yet reached the SSD pipeline, the second is its “brother” DCP1000, which has already entered the series. Inside - 4 separate drives, combined in RAID 0 for the sake of getting breathtaking speeds of work. Naturally, the main audience - corporate users and owners of render farms.

The DCP1000 connects to a full-sized PCI-E port with PCI-E 3.0 interface and 8 data lines. Maximum capacity - up to 8 TB. The DCU1000 is a bit simpler, it uses PCI-E 3.0 x4 bandwidth through the U.2 interface and comes in a 2.5 ”form factor. Its maximum volume will be 4 TB.

Well and most importantly, all new drives are given a five-year warranty with a declared mean time to failure (MTBF) of 2 million hours and a guaranteed recording capacity of 300 to 1000 TB, depending on the initial capacity of the drive, which can be 240, 480 or 960 GB.

    Crazy DDR4

New AMD Ryzen processors show good results, and they are higher, the faster the RAM used. It is a sin to leave such a promising platform without attention, and we have something to plug the empty connectors on the motherboard! HyperX Predator DDR4 is designed for gamers, overclocking fans and DYI enthusiasts: the modules can be easily overclocked to 4000 MHz, and are sold as individual units of 8/16 GB, and sets of two or more modules with a total volume of up to 128 GB.

Non-standard frequencies are protected in HyperX Predator DDR4 via XMP-profiles: manual selection of frequencies and timings will not be required - everything is already stolen overclocked to you.

    • Capacity: 8, 16 GB
    • Sets of 2 modules: 16, 32 GB
    • Sets of 4 modules: 32, 64 GB
    • Sets of 8 modules: 128 GB
    • Frequency: 2400, 2666, 3000, 3200, 3333, 3600 or 4000 MHz
    • CAS latency: CL12, CL13, CL15, CL16, CL17, CL19
    • Voltage: 1.35 V
    • Operating temperature: 0 ° C to 85 ° C
    • Dimensions: 133.35 x 42.2 mm

Well, if you think that with such transcendental frequencies the module degrades and collapses in a year - don’t worry, all HyperX Predator DDR4 memory is protected by a lifetime warranty. If a chip and go to the digital Valhalla (what we believe hard) - replace without question. We are really looking forward to the start of sales of Ryzen 9, enthusiasts with four-channel AMD will definitely like this memory.

    Keyboards for life winners

The main gaming novelty HyperX, of course, is the ALLOY RGB keyboard, which was introduced a little earlier, but has not yet gone on sale. Inside, the Cherry MX Brown micro-switches are optimal for gaming with tactile feedback and without a falling clicker delay.

From last year's HyperX ALLOY, the novelty is distinguished by a full-color RGB-backlit with flexible customization and an additional multimedia block taken out of the classic layout. As a result, the comfort in the printing / game / work process did not suffer, and we managed to get rid of the furious FN combinations. Well, about the coloring "for yourself" and there is nothing to tell - everything is adjusted: color, brightness, groups of keys, behavior when pressed and so on.

    Special mention deserves this thing:

You can assign anything: from volume control to scrolling web pages.

At the heart of HyperX ALLOY Elite RGB is a metal frame that does not bend or creak, and to improve ergonomics is a portable wrist pad. Too many users asked about it.

Last year's HyperX ALLOY FPS acquired a special edition: tournament version ALLOY PRO. For the sake of compactness and ease of transportation, it is devoid of a separate digital unit. Now you can easily take it to a LAN party, even to a gaming event - it will fit even in a small backpack. Inside, everything is exactly the same, zero changes — built-in memory, three variants of clickers (Cherry MX Blue, Red and Brown), and a bright red light that is customizable without using additional software — no need to bring a flash drive with software and macros.

Well, for fans of tactile sensations, the WASD backup keys with a special texture are included, some believe that it will be a bit more convenient to play first-person shooters with such.

    Sniper girlfriend

We already told about the Pulsefire mouse in a post-announcement, and very soon we will arrange a detailed analysis for it. If anyone forgot - inside the classic "optics» Pixart 3310, belonging to the class of "impeccable sensors." The maximum sensitivity is small, only 3200 ppi, but this is not the main thing. The main thing is how it works, it is collected and lies in the hand. The answer to all three points is excellent. The sensor speed is adjusted by a dedicated key, the harness minimally interferes with the path, providing only the characteristic smoothness of the movement of optical sensors. In general, if you are a fan of playing with the AWP, click out enemies on the Widow in Owerwatch or just a big fan of the Sniper Elite line - you will love the mouse.

    Top secret

There are no people in the world who have nothing to hide. From financial data and passwords to passwords to plans for the final game in some big e-sports event, our little paranoid friends and cryptoanarchists will keep it safe. The IronKey D300 and IronKey S1000 USB flash drives support hardware-based data encryption with a 256-bit key and do not require additional software: a regular USB 2.0 port — 3.1 is sufficient.

The difference between them in the speed of work - the one that is simpler, S300, is able to read data at speeds up to 250 MB / s and write up to 85 MB / s. The more expensive and sophisticated S1000 boasts performance of 400 MB / s when reading and 300 MB / s when writing. Both drives are available with volumes from 4 to 128 GB. Unfortunately, some problems with the law prevents us from importing a whole car of such flash drives into the territory of the Russian Federation. As soon as the secret digging from Taiwan through the center of the earth is ready, they will definitely be on sale, and we will tell you about it separately.

    Epilogue

That's all. Have a good mood at the weekend, and yes your data is stored on reliable drives. If you have questions - you can leave them in the comments or find the information you need on the official website of the company .
