Debian Project 18 Years Old

On August 16, 1993, exactly 18 years ago, Jan Murdoch published in comp.linux.os.development a message about the creation of a new distribution.

Over the past 18 years, with its convenience and reliability, Debian has earned the love of a huge number of users around the world. 11 releases have been released, the most recent being Debian 6.0 Squeeze, contains almost 30 thousand packages, and in the current unstable branch their number approaches 35i. Only officially Debian was ported to 13 architectures and worked on a wide range of devices, from communicators to space shuttles.

Today, around the world, developers, maintainers and users celebrate the birthday of their favorite distribution.

Users can also use the site http://thank-you.debian.net/to congratulate the development team or post pictures from their holidays on Debian's birthday.
