JavaScript Testing: Fireunit Screencast

Yesterday, after reading a post, John Reziga decided to write hot on the heels of the first of his life (this is to say that you shouldn’t scold him much, but constructive criticism is welcome :) screencast.

Fireunit is a javascript code testing tool created as a complement to firebug by John Rezig as part of his collaboration with the firebug team. At the moment, it works only under ff3 +, firebug 1.2+.

Why do we need such a testing tool if it works only in firefox?

    1. Fireunit allows you to test very interesting dom-events - events of loading and readiness of content, completion of rendering, like contentReady
    2. It is likely that fireunit will be included (or at least can be installed with) firebug light.
    3. The very idea of a testing framework built into the browser is very attractive. It is possible that manufacturers of other browsers will include a similar tool in their products (as was already the case with web inspector for webkit, dragonfly for opera, developer toolbar for ie8)

Actually, here is a video from vimeo'a:

Although it is better to look at vimeo itself in HD quality, you can see the font better: vimeo.com/2565495

And here you can watch video in .mov format (size 120 MB, resolution 1280x800).

When recording, I was worried, naturally, like a boy, first taking off her bra for a girl, almost didn’t get to stuttering. Which is very, very bad. You will have to try writing screencasts, or podcasts, so as not to be shy in front of your own laptop with the microphone on.

The video came out on the second attempt, the duration was 18 minutes, the sound was recorded through the built-in MacBook microphone. Everything was written in ScreenFlow .

Test files obtained as a result of shooting can be viewed in action here(firefox 3+, firebug 1.2+, fireunit 0.9).
