Apple seriously took up problems with the MobileMe service, which have made themselves felt in the past two weeks. In the process of correcting them, the head of the company, Steve Jobs, has already been involved.

Steve Jobs instructed some Apple employee to update the MobileMe status page several times a week , where you can find out some details about why the new push service refused to work, and what is currently fixed.

“The first two weeks after the launch turned out to be problematic and we know what inconvenience some people experienced,” the status page says. “You can be sure that our people are now working on a solution to the problem around the clock, and we will notify you of progress, even if later you have to publish changes or updates.”

As the first news, it is announced that a “serious problem” on their email servers has blocked access to about one percent of MobileMe customers, but access to their mail through a browser is already open, and full restoration of functionality should be completed within a week or by the beginning of the month. At the same time, an Apple employee warns that about 10% of letters sent between July 16 and 18 will be lost.

Without providing a detailed comment, the employee also adds that many of the problems encountered with the service are caused by the influx of traffic on the day the iPhone 3G and iPhone 2.0 firmware were launched, the volumes of which exceeded all expectations, thereby cutting off web access to all MobileMe functions. According to Apple, the company not only made the service “stronger”, but also took some steps to improve the stability of the software during such interruptions, as well as polished the overall functionality.

“Our team also fixed about 70 errors, including one that prevented the synchronization of MobileMe IMAP directories between the web application and Mac OS X Mail, or Outlook,” the employee notes, “in addition, errors in displaying data in Calendar and improved web performance applications. ”

In the coming days, the status page is expected to be updated, from which new details can be found. In the meantime, the company has updated an article about technical problems with MobileMe mail, including a partial solution for those who have been harmed by disabling the service.
