Lightning electric car: 10 minutes of charging, 200 miles away

LogoThe other day, as part of the British International Motor Show, the British company Lightning Car Company introduced an unusual electric car Lightning. The unusualness of the project is expressed in everything: in the fast sports form of the car, which is not quite familiar for models with an electric motor, in the use of a completely new type of battery - lithium-titanium; finally, in incredibly fast recharging of these batteries.

The company Lightning Car Company was founded relatively recently - only in 2006, but the names previously known in Rolls Royce and Bentley joined the ranks of its developers.

The design of the new electric vehicle is based on 30 NanoSafe batteries developed by the American company Altairnano, in which traditional graphite is replaced by titanate nanoparticles, which makes such batteries more thermostable and less toxic. The total capacity of the battery pack is 36 kW. NanoSafe batteries can be used for more than 12 years, while even after 15 thousand charge-discharge cycles, they retain up to 85% of their original capacity. Such batteries are already used, for example, in the Sport Utility Truck from Phoenix Motorcars. With a 3-phase network, the entire Lightning battery pack can be recharged in just 10 minutes.

The electric vehicle uses Hi-Pa Drive engines manufactured by the British PML Flightlink Ltd., with a capacity of 120 kW each, with an engine per wheel. According to a company spokesperson, Lightning can accelerate to 60 mph in just 4 seconds and drive up to 200 miles on a single battery charge.

A good car, but it is unlikely that it will be affordable for the general public in the near future: so far, such cars will be sold exclusively in England, and the price will be about 120 thousand pounds.
