$ 300 Humanoid Robot
Despite the seemingly sometimes stupid undertaking, dozens of companies are actively working on creating robots that can brighten our leisure time in an original way. And this is not about all kinds of robots, vacuum cleaners or waiters robots, but about technologically sophisticated toys that perform mainly entertaining functions.
The first attempts to create such kind of robots have already been made, for example, by Sony Corporation, which released the dog Aibo. However, the toy never achieved global popularity, and the project itself was closed not so long ago. However, according to the famous proverb, the “holy place” was not empty for a long time and was occupied by the American company UGOBE, which introduced the Pleo dinosaur robot. One and this office of mountains has not yet turned. Nevertheless, attempts to present a toy of the future are made by many other companies, one of which has many chances for success, since it promises to sell its miracle toy for only 200-300 dollars. The name of this company is Hanson Robotics. Just the other day, its representatives staged a demonstration of their brainchild - a humanoid robot called Zeno, created as part of the RoboKind project.
If you believe David Hanson (David Hanson), the main inspirer and author of the project, Zeno will be noticeably different from other similar toys, not only more attractive price tag, but also a lesser degree of "scripting". In other words, it will be possible to interact with the toy at a qualitatively different level. To do this, Mr. Henson engaged Massive Software, a New Zealand software company specializing in the creation of artificial intelligence, to work on a project. The appearance of Zeno on sale is expected no earlier than 2009, and while the company only demonstrates a valid prototype , which, however, does not make a strong impression.
By the way, some potential users have already expressed very skeptical opinions about the Hanson Robotics initiative. In their opinion, an overly smart toy can harm the psyche of a child and wean him from proper interaction with people.
And in some ways these people are right ...
