KM Aska released in beta

On the pages of the multiportal KM.Ru, from some time you can observe the link-announcement of the service "KM Aska". The service is defined as the "first Russian Internet pager", which is integrated with ICQ and has a number of additional functions.

Among the declared functions are: instant notification of the arrival of a letter to KM.Ru's mail, quick access to portal services (news, weather reports, currency rates), Internet search without visiting search sites, etc.

The KM ICQ program itself is currently underway beta testing, and developers admit that a lot of it still does not work. It is also known that visitors to the portal, whom, according to the counter Rambler's Top100, more than 100 thousand unique per day, produce approximately 300 program downloads per day. KM experts said that at this stage their “ICQ” is distinguished by a unique message encryption system - it is automatically performed on the server, but it was not possible to find out the details of the system.

Since “KM ICQ”, in addition to the usual ICQ services , has functions familiar to users on Agent Agent Mail.Ru , we asked Anna Artamonova, vice president of Mail.Ru and director of marketing and PR, about the new product .

“Firstly, the product presented by KM,” says Anna, “is not an independent messenger at all, but a gate in ICQ plus a toolbar for quick access to the services of KM itself. He does not have his own protocol for exchanging data, his own customer base, etc., therefore, I think it makes no sense to discuss his independent prospects as a messenger. What’s interesting is the question: did KM agree with ICQ officially or not? ”

Habrahabr took an interest in KM and received a response that there are no official agreements with ICQ yet, because it is not yet clear whether the service will develop further or if the project will be closed at the company.
