The school principal did not go global with Microsoft

Despite the fact that Microsoft did not file a lawsuit against the director of the provincial school, Alexander Ponosov is being tried for the illegal use of copyright objects of this corporation on an especially large scale. The consequence of Microsoft’s loss from installing an unlicensed version of Windows on 12 computers in the school of the village of Sepych estimated at 266 thousand rubles. An accused who denies guilt faces up to 5 years in prison.

The process so far does not turn in the direction of Ponosov - recall, he argued that computers were already purchased with Windows. According to Regnum , it turned out that the company that completed the system units did not install software before selling computers. But this company was not a supplier of cars to school - it was a certain private entrepreneur.

Who has installed the "OSes", so far failed to find out - as well as to find out exactly when it happened. “There is no doubt that the programs are counterfeit, but the exact date of their installation cannot be named,” said Sergey Artemov, an expert from Perm State Technical University.

But the court hearing was noteworthy as follows: Alexey Potapov, a Microsoft spokesman, confirming the position of his employer, suggested that Alexander Ponosov conclude a settlement agreement without paying material compensation, but the school principal refused. If he agreed, the case would be closed, but this did not happen, since Alexander Ponosov does not consider himself guilty.

“At first, when they just started a criminal case, I partially admitted my guilt. I was shocked, I decided that pirated programs were installed when computers were already in school. But then it turned out that the programs had been installed much earlier, I could not know that they were unlicensed, ”Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports .

In addition, another mysterious circumstance became known - one of the hard drives “involved” in the case disappeared. All 12, they were stored in the school, while being considered "confiscated by the prosecutor's office." After the court session on January 29, one of them was missed - the defendant himself informed about this.
