How the leman currency conquers Switzerland

In the midst of summer, the media reported on the expansion of the local currency of Lemans, which continues to spread throughout the territory of its homeland - Switzerland, and even has managed to penetrate into neighboring France. According to representatives of the organization The Leman Currency Association, which founded Lehman, now residents of Swiss Lausanne will also have the opportunity to use this local currency.

The experts of the Wirex platform , which specializes in blockchain-based money transfers, decided to deal with the phenomenon of the growing local currency Lehman.

The very concept of “local” is used in relation to the currency allowed either within a small territory, or a single real or virtual community. Such currencies can be both non-convertible (editorial note - not exchangeable for other currencies), and partially convertible.

If you delve into the history of the aforementioned Lehman currency, it turns out that it was originally created with the aim of stimulating purchases of local products. The launch of the project took place on September 18, 2015 as part of the ALTERNATIBA LEMAN festival, dedicated to the discussion and search for solutions to global warming problems, where the lehman was originally presented as coupons.

At the end of the festival, lehman became available for purchase at exchange offices and entered the turnover of enterprises as an additional currency.



Structurally, Lehman is money of the same type as the currency, the introduction of which was discussed in Greece in the summer of 2015. By the way, the founding father of the Lehman currency, Jean Roseau, believes that the Greeks decided too late to introduce an additional currency. The crisis by that time was already irreversible. Therefore, any possible economic shocks need, according to Roseau, to be forewarned, not treated.

Jean Roseau, the head of The Leman Currency Association, refers to the success of the Lemans in Geneva and strongly argues that the currency will have a beneficial effect on the development of the local economy, and this is its competitive advantage in comparison with the euro and the Swiss franc.

In a September interview last year with Eva Geneva, Roseau spoke more about the benefits of lehman.

According to him, the launch of lehman is due to both economic and environmental reasons caused by the need to concentrate production within the region.

Often, small businesses can’t get a loan in Geneva, so Roseau is convinced that Lehman opens up the possibility for business entrepreneurs to rely on affordable lending.

The environmental friendliness of products, their benefits to humans and environmental safety are also extremely important for Roseau, therefore, according to his plan, only those enterprises whose production organization complies with the provisions of the special ethical charter initiated by Roseau can use lehman. Thus, lehman is gradually becoming the hallmark of the quality of environmentally friendly enterprises, attracting consumers who prefer local products.

According to Roseau, support for Lemans can be beneficial for officials, as the development of the local currency will lead to an increase in economic indicators and employment, which, in turn, stimulates the taxation of the cantons (editorial note - Switzerland’s administrative-territorial units).

As a new currency, Lehman will in no way harm the Swiss franc or euro. Enterprises and companies that will use lehman can freely accept both euro and francs.

Roseau sees the strategic goal of increasing the recognition of Lemans as a separate currency brand, as well as informing users about the positive impact on the Swiss economy. That is why The Leman Currency Association is already thinking about issuing an e-currency Leman and developing a special application for mobile devices.

To date, the launch of local currency has found support from approximately 200 companies in Geneva and France located nearby. If you believe the official statements of The Leman Currency Association, then by the end of the year the currency will have another 100 partners.
