Twitter has ceased to consider links and attachments in the length of the tweet
Twitter microblogging service announced an update that increased the length of the tweet. The need for such changes has been discussed for a long time, and the company's leadership on the issue was officially confirmed by the leadership of Twitter earlier this year. At the same time, the limit of 140 characters is not going anywhere. Expansion of message sizes lies in the fact that it will now be considered a symbol as such.
Previously, any information in the tweet input field was considered a tweet symbol: text, links (both external and to other tweets), calls to other users, and even polls. Depending on the functionality used (attached links, pictures, etc.), the actual text length of the tweet was reduced from 140 to, often, 90-100 characters.
Taking into account the fact that Twitter has long become a kind of not only a social network, but also a news aggregator for many users, the company management decided to meet that part of the audience that is engaged in content generation (and it’s not that great).
According to the information from the company 's official blog , with new updates, the symbols will no longer be counted for non-textual content, namely:
In addition, the company plans to abandon the use of "@" as a mandatory symbol for mentioning the user. It will be possible to reply to tweets simply via the "reply" button. However, in order for your subscribers to see the correspondence, the record will have to be retweeted.
In the meantime, Twitter has ceased to take into account the symbols of attached images, GIF and polls. Other changes have not yet entered into force.
