Russian scientists have begun to create a quantum computer

Today it became known that Russia is starting to implement a project to create a quantum computer. This work is done by the so-called quantum consortium wrote "RIA Novosti". A little earlier, the scientific and technical council of the Fund for Advanced Studies (FPI) approved plans to create a quantum computer in Russia in 2018–2021. In particular, scientists are going to develop demonstrators of 50-qubit quantum computers based on neutral atoms and integrated optical circuits.

“The project will start in stages: the“ physical ”part is currently being launched, which is planned to be implemented on the basis of MV Lomonosov Moscow State University. Lomonosov with the participation of MSTU. N.E. Bauman, All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Automation, Physical-Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and others with the support of FPI, ”said a company representative.

He also added that the main direction of work is the development of a demonstrator of an optical quantum simulator based on two main implementation technologies of quantum calculators. The first technology is photonic chips, the second is neutral atoms.

“The project participants note that part of the technical tasks can be solved by acquiring equipment of foreign production, but as a matter of priority, the possibility of launching additional projects to develop and improve the domestic element base will be considered (for example, multichannel single-photon superconducting detectors are already being produced in Russia)”, - reported in VEB Innovations.

In the spring, the project participants clarified the terms of reference in accordance with the adjustments of scientists from the Moscow State Technical University named after NE. Bauman, St. Petersburg State University, Physical Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, All-Russian Research Institute of Automation, and others.

“In parallel, there will be an expansion of the consortium working on the creation of the Russian multi-quantum quantum computer — new participants will join it from among interested consumers, research organizations and development institutions,” the project participants said.

In addition to the development of the quantum system itself, specialists will study the possibilities of its practical operation. There will also be questions about the development of photon detectors and various quantum algorithms.
