John McAfee talked about how to properly crack iPhone protection

Yes, he does not have an iPhone in his hands.

On February 19, McAfee founder, presidential candidate, information security specialist John McAfee decided to help the FBI retrieve encrypted information from the phone of a terrorist who killed and injured dozens of people (there were more than one offender). He said that with his team he could crack the phone in three weeks. Otherwise, McAfee promised to eat his shoes online.

“Here is my suggestion for the FBI. I will decrypt the information for free from the phone of San Bernadino from my company. We will use mainly social engineering, and it will take us three weeks. If you accept my offer, then you do not need to ask Apple to place a backdoor in your product, which will mean the beginning of the end of America, ”McAfee said in February. Now it turned out that he was not going to crack the terrorist’s iPhone. John McAfee claims to have lied deliberately to draw public attention to the actions of the FBI.

“By doing this, I knew that I would get a huge amount of public attention, which happened in the end. This video, on my YouTube account, collected about 700,000 views. I consider it necessary to show American citizens that the FBI is trying to trick them. How else could I say this? No one would listen. Therefore, I made a sensation, ”said McAfee.

At the same time, the businessman claims that he can hack the iPhone, and without much difficulty. Here's a video where he talks about how to crack an iPhone.

And here you can listen to his interview with The Daily Dot.

John said that in order to crack iPhone encryption, you need a hardware engineer and a software engineer. The first engineer should disassemble and copy the set of instructions, i.e. applications and memory. Then the disassembler starts. After this, the software specialist should find the first function call that activates the password request. Once the call is found, you can find out where the secret code is stored in memory. According to McAfee, all this should take only half an hour.

It is not yet clear whether McAfee believes in what he said, or whether he again “draws attention to the problem.” But, as you know, iOS does not store passwords in its own memory, and even in clear text. Maybe John is not aware of how modern encryption methods work?

Whatever it was, but the attention of the public McAfee really attracted, and even what. But, of course, the question still remains whether he will still have his shoes or not. He didn’t hack the phone ...
