“... And they will suck all the energy out of the Sun”

The town of Woodland in North Carolina has banned the installation of solar panels nearby, because they "kill plants" and "suck all the energy out of the Sun."

Clean energy sometimes encounters unexpected obstacles. Who would have thought that ordinary Americans would oppose it, and that damage to nature would become the basis for criticism? It’s hard to believe, but that’s exactly what happened at the city meeting of the small town of Woodland (North Carolina), where a public hearing was recently held on the project for installing a solar power plant, the local newspaper Roanoke Chowan News Herald writes .

Woodland residents, including retired teacher Jane Mann, opposed the proposal. Mrs. Mann was especially convincing, not for nothing that she taught physics and chemistry at school. The teacher explained to the audience that the installation of solar panels threatens the photosynthesis of surrounding plants, which depends on sunlight. If photosynthesis stops, then the plants will stop growing.

Mrs. Mann said that she personally saw how the trees and grass around the solar panels turn brown and die because they do not receive enough sunlight.

She asked about the number of cancer deaths in the area and said that no one had said that solar panels did not cause cancer.

“I want to know what to expect,” the teacher said. “I want information.” Have a little good. I don’t see the benefits for the city. ”

“People come to us with secret plans,” she added. “Until we find out that nothing threatens our community, we should not sign any papers.”

Elderly Bobby Mann at a meeting recalled how the town’s population had decreased after the construction of I-95 and warned: the same thing could happen after the installation of a solar power plant “You are killing your city,” he said. “All the youth will just leave.”

He added that solar panels would suck all the energy out of the sun, and entrepreneurs would not want to do business in Woodland.

As a result of the hearing, the Woodland City Council not only rejected the Strata Solar Company project, but also imposed a moratorium on installing solar panels near the city in the future.
