Elon Musk is looking for "hardcore" engineers for Tesla autopilot
Elon Musk tweeted that he is looking for “hardcore software engineers” to “achieve full autonomy” for Tesla Motors electric vehicles. This task is so important for the company that Musk will personally conduct interviews with candidates.
If you are interested in this offer, write to autopilot@teslamotors.com, adding examples of your work in the letter. It’s better to hurry, the founder of Box cloud service Aaron Levy has already expressed a desire to work with the project: “Do you accept candidates with experience only in corporate cloud computing? And can I continue to be the head of the Box? ”
After the beta release of the autopilot in Model S, a video began to appear where drivers ignore the warning that they should not give up on the steering wheel and endanger themselves and other road users.
In October 2015, Tesla released a firmware update version 7.0 for the Model S electric car. which added autopilot to the electric car. The function itself does not imply a complete replacement of the driver, but it helps to keep markings, speed limits and avoid collisions with other vehicles and pedestrians. The car must scan the surrounding area for parking spaces, warn the driver if they find them, and park on their own.
A few hours after the update , videos appeared on Youtubewhere drivers have crashes while their Model S is driven by an autopilot. In a press release, Tesla warned that this is a beta version, and that hands cannot be removed from the steering wheel at the time of movement - some drivers ignored this rule, endangering themselves and others. In some situations, the car behaved inappropriately, but warned in advance with a sound signal: if you keep your hands on the steering wheel, you can take control at any time and avoid a collision.
Elon Musk called the autopilot “super high priority” for Tesla. The function will become available over time in all the company's cars, but it will not be soon - it may take about three years to develop.
Aaron Levy expressed a desire to participate. He asked if he could remain the head of the Box company that he founded. It will be interesting to look at this interview.
