Klokers watches: an analogue anachronism that raised more than 500,000 euros

Everyone has long decided on what to wear today (or rather, tomorrow) on his hand as a watch. Naturally, some kind of modification of “smart” watches - Apple Watch, Pebble and so on. However, this approach is not shared by everyone. And the mass of successful startups of more familiar analog watches presented today at Kickstarter.com confirms this.

The project of Geneva designers - two modifications of Klokers watches - in two weeks of October has already raised more than half a million euros with the planned 50 thousand. The watches themselves are offered at the funding stage at a price of 349 euros.

What is the secret to success?

    Design

As the developers say, they drew inspiration from the tools and mechanisms of the past industrial era.

When looking at the KLOK-01 chronograph model, the classic slide rule comes to mind:

Three scales move relative to each other at different speeds, the exact time is shown in the built-in lens sector. The constant rotation of the dials looks very impressive, all the time you wait that they are about to stop, something will coincide with something, and some secret will be revealed. For example, why a quartz watch costs so much money.

The second watch model (KLOK-02), resembling either an accelerometer on our Volga GAZ-21, or even some instrument scale, has another feature - a retrograde second hand.

Reaching the rightmost digit of the scale, she bounces back.

In the lower half of the dial is a window of the clock and the name of the city. What does the city have to do with it, it’s easy to explain. By pressing the button on the right at the “four hours”, you can switch between time zones, and the main cities symbolize each of them.

    Design and mechanism

The case of both models is made of metal-polymer composite. The diameter of the case of the first model is 44 mm, the thickness is 11.5 mm. The second model is 43.6 mm and 13.2 mm, respectively. As glasses, a transparent polymer is used.

And now to the most important thing - how the watch works. The Swiss quartz Ronda generator is responsible for the accuracy of the stroke, and to help it, the power plant is the latest models of Swiss micromotors.

The only thing the developers did not mention is what batteries the clock runs on and how much they will have with such energy-intensive kinetics.

    Ecosystem

Another point that project designers rely on is the ability to use the watch itself with various kinds of media. Such a fastening system was invented and patented:

Which forms an entire ecosystem of carriers:

The approach to the project is demonstrated non-trivial, it can hook. Beautiful, original and plus Swiss made.

Actually, the success of such projects, and there are many of them on Kickstarter.com and Indiegogo.com, once again demonstrates the separation of consumers into two camps - fans of functional gadgets and those who prefer advanced design.
