[Dock canceled] Progress M-27M was launched to the ISS with a slight malfunction

A few minutes ago, the Progress M-27M spacecraft was successfully launched to the International Space Station. On board an unmanned truck are more than 2.5 tons of various cargoes: 420 kg of water, 50 kg of air and oxygen in cylinders, 500 kg of fuel for the station, diets, scientific experiments and packages for the crew.

As reportedAlexander Agureev, head of the ISS crew nutrition department of the Institute of Biomedical Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, regular diets with canned fish from zander, salmon, trout, sturgeon, bream and beluga were diluted with fruits, vegetables, and delicious ham. In honor of the 70th anniversary of Victory, the ship carries a copy of the Victory Banner and several St. George ribbons for the crew, and images of the Order of the Patriotic War and St. George Ribbon were applied to the head fairing of the launch vehicle.

May 9 will be marked at the station with juice with black caviar - on the ISS, as Kornienko says , there is its “small reserve”. These are small thirty-gram jars that are cherished for special occasions in order to treat foreign colleagues.

It is planned that the Progress M-27M will dock to the Pirs compartment of the ISS Russian segment within six hours - at 16:07 Moscow time. Usually maneuvers in orbit can take days or more. This is the second experimental launch of a cargo ship on a Soyuz-2.1a rocket. On April 25, the Progress M-25M spacecraft launched in October last year was undocked from the ISS , then it descended from orbit and burned out upon entering the atmosphere. The fireproof parts of the apparatus were plannedly flooded in the so-called "spaceship cemetery", a special non-navigational region of the Pacific Ocean.

The Progress ship is an unmanned cargo modification of the Soyuz, which allows you to increase the stay of the crew of space stations in orbit without the need to replace the Soyuz. Currently, cosmonauts Gennady Padalka, Mikhail Kornienko, Anton Shkaplerov, as well as ESA astronauts Samantha Christopherotti and NASA Terry Woerts and Scott Kelly are working on board the International Space Station. Kornienko and Kelly will be at the station for a year to conduct an experiment to study the biological effects of long-term space flights on the human body.

Updated 2015-04-28 10:40:Due to a small malfunction (or the inability to confirm the disclosure of the proximity and docking antennas), the Progress M-27M spacecraft docked to the ISS using a circuit of 34 turns, that is, after two days, and not six hours, as originally planned. Docking is scheduled for Thursday 12:03 Moscow time.

Updated 2015-04-28 19:00: The ship has serious problems : it rotates and does not respond to telemetry commands. Docking on Thursday canceled. The crew has enough supplies, but not every ship can deliver fuel to correct the station’s orbit.

Updated 2015-04-29 14:10: The question of docking is no longer there , now the main task is the safe disposal of the device. The damage from this launch was estimated at about 5 billion rubles, the start was insured for 2 billion rubles at SOGAZ and Ingosstrakh.
