Monkey-like robot from NASA will take part in the DARPA contest in 2015

NASA's RoboSimian , set off in June 2015 for the annual DARPA Robotics Challenge . The team has been developing its robot for 2 years. RoboSimian moves on four limbs with many “joints”. He knows how to step over obstacles and move over rough terrain, striding on four “legs”. In addition, bending the “hind” legs, he finds himself on four wheels - a pair in “legs”, a second pair - at the bottom of the “torso”. Thus, it can quickly roll on flat surfaces. Also, the robot is equipped with seven cameras from different sides.

In the DARPA Robotics Challenge competition, teams that create robots that must act in dangerous situations close to the conditions of a city disaster compete. Whether it’s a natural disaster, war or terrorism, robots have to disassemble the rubble, move through heaps of rubbish, open doors and operate with various levers and locks. This year, robots will also have to get into the car, hold it some distance and climb out, cut through the wall with tools, open the valve in the pipe.

    Glory to the robots!

The DARPA Robotics Challenge has been held by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency since 2012. Various semi-autonomous robots are developed for the competition, as well as software for managing them. In addition to the applications of these robots in modern cities, their use in space stations and settlements on other planets is seen in the future.
