CreateYourMinis - Online 3D Fantasy Mini-Figure Editor

An interesting project from French developers appeared at Kickstarter , located at the junction of hobby modeling and 3D printing. This is the new online service CreateYourMinis , aimed at fans of computer games, as well as books, films and comics in the genres of cyber punk and fantasy.

The service offers anyone who wants to “bang” a virtual model of a heavily armed mercenary, a fabulous Amazon or an intergalactic police captain in a few minutes - with the subsequent materialization of a mini figure in a scale of 1:56 by means of 3D printing. The interface of the graphic editor is clearly inspired by classic RPG computer toys that allow you to choose the gender and style of the character’s appearance, dress him in a different “gear”, buy weapons, protective equipment and accessories.

In truth, the features of the editor are not yet very impressive. The interface is implemented at the level of the first version of Diablo - you cannot call it stylish and modern in any way. Available exterior types come in two genders and three categories: mercenaries, fantasy, and science fiction. The weapons library has about 60 elements, among which are shields, swords, crossbows, bows, clubs, daggers and various firearms - from hand blasters to the good old AK-47.

By the way, the editor has the ability to create entire sets of weapons - regardless of the figures. The wardrobe of the characters is not yet pleasing with variety: two pairs of shoes for each category, as well as a modest selection of chain mail, armor and spacesuits. In addition, there is an acute deficit in hairstyles and facial expressions - the female gender is especially deprived of attention.

In order not to focus on the shortcomings, it is worth noting the presence of a very valuable option - the modifier poses. There are not so few of them in the editor: standing, sitting, dynamic poses, various fighting stances. But most of them are adapted to a specific type of weapon. So in this area, the choice is not too big. Among other things, developers are announcing the ability to add a custom logo to their shields and armor. By the way, special requirements will be imposed on him. In addition to the traditional restrictions on file format and image size, developers will introduce a complete ban on the use of Nazi symbols and registered trademarks.

In general, the project turned out to be interesting - in terms of ideas. The incarnation so far on the "C grade". In addition to a wretched interface and a lack of structural elements, the editor sometimes produces rendering errors, such as an inverted laser machine gun aimed at the eye of its owner. However, the developers promise to bring the service to mind and replenish the library with new devices when the project goes to the commercial level.

Now the site is in test mode. The user can create various characters, give them names and save them in a personal library, ranking by user categories. The possibility of 3D printing will appear a bit later (in case of success of the campaign, of course). It is not yet clear whether the developers will confine themselves to the manufacture of custom figures to order with subsequent delivery to the addressee or supplement it with the ability to download the corresponding STL files. The prices have not yet been decided, but the “donors” are promised two exclusive mini-figures as a gift: the Hanon assassin and the Drop Dead Daisy robot.
