A little bit about the creative process

This article will be interesting / useful for those who have just started sawing their startup, who are in the process, and those who have already achieved a lot can simply check some of our statements.

“We were constantly encouraged to keep moving forward, to be in motion for the sake of movement. They demanded that we constantly update. Change is important in itself, but it has a limit. Yes, updating is a change, an attempt to “do it differently”, the desire to change and remake. At the same time protecting the principles checked by time. ” Robert Galvin, former CEO of Motorola.

About time-tested principles, this is all very cool, but when you don’t have time or not, not enough time has passed before the proven principles appear in the project, what then, what to do?

We will not tell an outstanding secret, we will not tell any secret, because in our opinion, these simply do not exist!

Each project is unique, something that worked perfectly in one project will not always work in another. In the first months of work, real chaos reigns, creative chaos, and as we think, this chaos just needs to be tamed, made it manageable.

This is not about planning, writing down everything that is possible on whiteboards, pasting all the walls of the office with yellow pieces of paper with timing and deadlines, diving into all the different task managers. I never loved diaries, outlooks and other such things.

Planning allows you to plan everything, calculate costs, reduce risks and there are still a bunch of different benefits from this, but it kills the creative process.

How can you plan your train of thought, stream of ideas ...? Yes, this is a question, if anyone knows the answer, share in the comments, we will be very grateful. Memory cards do not count.

But you know, it is about the creative process that I want to talk about. About thoughts that go into your head 24/7, about when you wake up in the middle of the night to record one of them, and then you do not sleep with it until the morning, because as you thought at that moment, she was brilliant and cool, didn’t anyone have such a thing !?

I used to write everything in a notebook, and in the morning to sort these squiggles and try to translate into a normal language. Then discuss the whole thing with the team. Developers are usually dry and do not care, they are busy with business and sitting in their matrix, the designer is creative and is always ready to discuss the "nonsense" that got into your head at night. Marketer - I don’t even know what to say. And after a while, everyone is already in the subject and discussing what can be squeezed out - This is the first sign that the idea to transform into a Hypothesis will turn out, and this is real magic!

If the idea turned into a hypothesis, then it should be quickly verified, and most importantly, remember that the Best is the enemy of the good!
Throw away all perfectionism and test the hypothesis. Here's what you need to do!

And then out of chaos, order is born, in theory! It would seem, now, this is the finish line, but who knows where this finish is at all? There is no limit to perfection.
And again planning begins: timelines, budget, necessary revenue, operations, internal and external processes, marketing and blah blah blah ...
And if this finish is shifted in the process? And he always moves, then what?

But after all, creativity also for the sake of creativity is also impossible to do.

It was in such creative chaos that we worked these few months, we got an excellent feedback on Megamind, thank you for that! This, of course, does not mean that we rushed to realize all the Wishlist, but honestly, there was such a desire. Sometimes a pause helps to understand what is wrong, where you are going, whether you are on the right track.

The most important thing is not to bury the creative process, then the risk of failing everything increases multiple times, you should not be afraid to abandon the work done and turn off the path if you understand that you are not going there!

The main thing is not to try to do everything perfectly and immediately try to roll out all the features of your project. Each hypothesis must be tested. After all, it may turn out that what you did as a whole team for several months may simply be useless to anyone or necessary, but it is unlikely to sell it!

The ideal option is to divide everything into small pieces and give out short iterations, a week or two, ideally!

If your idea has become a hypothesis, then test it, as quickly as possible, on living and unfamiliar people!

So about the principles tested by time:

“Don’t promise anything, don’t count on anything, do something!”

And that our service has survived, what has evolved and where it is going, we will tell you in the next article!
