Two weeks after the advent of Geektimes: alas ...

    with Habr after separation”

Now I will whine a lot. Two weeks ago, I whined simply, today I will whine with reason. So, a little more than two weeks have passed since the separation of Habr. In my opinion, it is already possible to take stock. And they are something so fancy.

    First: few people read Geektime.
More precisely, it’s not so when I look at an article on Geektimes and see their attendance, I want to “cry from grief, or forget in melancholy”. Knowing the average attendance on Habré before separation and now, I see that 5 times fewer people see similar articles. Here is a simple comparison:

Topic about the new Nexus 6 at Geektimes: +33, 20 thousand visits.
Topic aboutNexus 5 on Habré: +103, 172 thousand.

Ok, in the case of Nexus 6 it was only about the phone, in the topic about Nexus 5 they also spoke about the new Android. Well, the text about Android 5 on Geektimes: 66+, 26 thousand. Despite the fact that most likely these visits intersect with each other.

Next, the text about the new iPad, Macs, etc. Geektimes: +45, 20.5 thousand visits. Last year on Habré : +78, 139 thousand visits.
And I chose the most noticeable texts and topics, usually collecting a lot of views.

Second: and there is nothing to read
The first few days after the division of Habr, a complete mess was going on at Geektimes. At first, some kind of graphomania started (the author immediately sawed it out). Then Mosigra, adequate to this, arranged a census of "good books." Including "Masters and Margarita" and other, completely geeky books. By the way, this was the first and last post of Mosigra, after which they returned to Habr. Then posts from Captain Evidence and other mythical characters began to appear . Well, something like that occasionally slips up to now.

What am I talking about. On a habr would such posts fiercely zaminusut. Accordingly, those who come to read, see this bedlam, and go back to the familiar Habr. Alas, the rules for publishing on Geektimes are still not defined. And while this is periodically a sort of chat room, with the corresponding semantic content.

Third: and there are no normal comments.
Everything is simple, Habr is first of all a community. And, as has been emphasized many times, comments on an article are often more important and interesting than a topic. I myself often write for the sake of comments. However, where do they come from if attendance is 5 times less? Those. instead of 50 comments there will be 10. Instead of 100 - only 20. So it turns out that again there is nothing to read.

Fourth: there is no clear border between Habré and Gimetimes
I understand the logic of why part of the Hubs was drunk from the Habr, but why they drank so much and why you can’t write to the rest, I don’t understand. So an example. I write the text on Habr about Google volunteers and their option of voluntary technical support. The Google hub, as it turned out, was cut out (why?).
Ok, I’m putting in “system administration” about technical support, “community management” because of how to build a loyal community. Well, bother with "project management." After a few minutes, my text is cut out by moderators and placed in "I am PR." Although, as you can see later, this is not true nirazu. The text begins to collect cons due to misunderstanding (I would also minusanul, because to write about it in such a Hub is obvious nonsense). Ok, I delete the post and leave for the “alternate aerodrome”, i.e. publish on geektimes. The post collects the pros and goes to 6th place in the rating "best of the day." Post here it is .

As already mentioned, I don’t understand why he should be at Geektimes, and why on Habré he only has a place in “I am PR”. Another example: Inbox post. As far as I understand, due to the absence of the Hub, Google hangs on geektimes. As for me, so it is the place on Habré.

Conclusions : but no conclusions. I still don't like Geektimes. And, alas, I don’t see anything on the site changing for the better. Now it is no better than many other sites on similar topics.

And the last, in fact, for what I wrote this topic. Voting. And then it seems to me that I'm here alone so boring
