Digest: ReactOS or how we pro ... code this summer

Good afternoon, the Guardians!
86 days have passed since the writing of the last digest, and the time has come to get in touch again and tell about our achievements. Honestly, usually in the summer the development freezes and almost stops for obvious reasons (the vast majority of project developers live north of the Tropic of Cancer ), but as it turned out, just not this time.

  • Gigaherz is working at an accelerated pace to complete the implementation of the new conductor. Updates to his developer's diary appear almost weekly. The guy did not stop even an accident in the kitchen, when he scalded his hand with hot oil.

  • Through the efforts of the Zefklop developer, the NtProtectVirtualMemory function appeared in the memory manager, as a result of which the stable operation of Oracle / Sun JAVA and programs using it, including development environments, became possible.

I have not tested it beyond the last image, neither have I tried to run it after a re-boot. So here are the images of what I have managed to do.

There is a little fault in this next image; the window border of the IDE is invisible (it is there, because when I took the screenshot, the area was highlighted and that is why you can see a bit of the desktop).

  • A series of patches from Huw Campbell, Tarnyko, and Thomas Faber fixed the FreeType font engine connection interface. Thanks to this, all programs written in GTK are now correctly displayed and work in ReactOS.

  • Oldman tester found that it is possible to use VNC family of programs for working with remote desktop in ReactOS.

    And the final humiliation!

  • The UniATA ATA device driver has been improved again , the list of supported equipment has been expanded by more than 10 positions, a bug has been fixed that blocked work with the controller based on Marvell 9123. I had to spend a lot of time in debugging to track the kernel error . More precisely, the most efforts were spent trying to start this debugging, the matter was complicated by the non-standard arrangement of the com-port pins on the tested motherboard, a broken cable and the usb-com buggy adapter) The new version of the driver is not yet included in the trunk at the time of writing, but it can be independently download and add to any iso ReactOS file replacement in the editor.

Thanks to these improvements, the ReactOS live distribution runs on 80% of modern laptops equipped with a built-in optical drive.

But such souvenirs will be received by our backers who supported the ReactOS campaign on Indigogo.
