Online LaTeX editor of Papeeria. Spring news

You already started to write diplomas and term papers, right? If you have already finished and defended, then congratulations, and if the process is in full swing, then you will probably be interested to know about the news of Papyria.

Papyria is a cloud-based LaTeX editor. We already advertised on Habré a year ago and last December , so we won’t paint again about not installing latex - it’s very nice. It’s better than our users say about it, whose reviews can be read on the Papyri page in the Chrome Web Store (select All languages). And we will talk about the main news of winter and spring and future plans.

    Graphs

In many works, in addition to the text, it is also necessary to show the results of experiments. Give a picture that clearly demonstrates that your compiler compiles 3 times faster than Intel's, or that the performance of your DBMS grows linearly with an increase in the number of servers, while for all the others it is only logarithmic. Or something else outstanding. To generate a graph from a data set, in general, the wisdom is small, and there are a lot of tools in the world, but for some reason, they are reluctant to study them. Well, now the schedule can be inserted literally without breaking away from the text of the work.

Papyria can generate two-dimensional graphs of various types from CSV data. The easiest way to turn CSV into a graph embedded in the article text:
    1. Move cursor to desired location
    2. Press Alt + Insert (or Ctrl + N on Mac OS)
    3. Select Insert Chart ... from the context menu
    4. Give a title and signature to the schedule and insert CSV data in the text box
    5. Click Done
    6. Get a CSV data file, PDF image file and LaTeX code at the cursor position
    7. Recompile project
    8. Profit!

The graph can be customized: change the type (maybe a histogram is needed, but a broken or piecewise-constant line?), Make labels for the axes, change the format of labels, the location of the legend. Details with pictures can be found on our blog.

    Teamwork

A year ago, our joint work was primitive and boiled down to the ability to read the text written by the project owner. Now we are almost ready for real-time editing. Collaborators in one project can simultaneously edit different files; if Vasya created a new file, then with his co-author Petit, this file will immediately appear in the project panel; if Vasya added a paragraph of the text, then Petya will see the notification in the bell; if Petya is editing a file, then Vasya will receive updates in real time. Unfortunately, there is no joint editing of one file so far, but we have almost done that too.

    Project revisions

Sometimes you want to fix the project in some state and be able to return to it in the future. Programmers in this case make a git commit, and secretaries often copy the file by adding a number to the name. We can do a revision of the project , continue working on it, and if necessary, roll back to the saved revision. Like in Google Docs. This feature is available only to paid users.

    All sorts of little things

We like to make nice little things. In spring, PDF rewinding appeared after compilation to a place corresponding to the cursor position (it was very annoying to scroll to the desired slide again) and an assistant for inserting pictures , which allows you to add a picture file to the project and insert the environment figure. Well, recall that we have a spellchecker (for now the truth is not very sensible) and word-based auto-completion ( Ctrl + Space , as you might guess)

    What's in the future

In winter, our beautiful student intern made a prototype of a prompter offering relevant research based on text analysis. Sooner or later he will appear with us and will argue with the supervisor . Integration with Dropbox has also been tested and also has a chance to appear soon. More powerful tools for working with graphs and charts; support for higher level markdown markup formats; Well, and everything else, which is enough time and energy. We will be glad to see new offers and new users!
