Creating a media platform using CMS Drupal
Hello!
This post is the first of a series of posts about creating a multimedia / music project based on CMS / CMF Drupal. It so happened that this post also claimed to receive an invite. C'est la vie.
So why am I starting to create such a project? Because now it’s difficult for a professional musician
Well, and since the target audience is still young people (although gold is also hoo!), The project is supposed to be implemented via the Internet. I’ll make a reservation right away - I’m not a programmer, so the combination of “programmed field output” for me is still tantamount to calling Beelzebub.
I note - relatively recently I saw that my idea was partially implemented in the "alien" Splayn social network . For a number of reasons, this option did not suit me - I will explain why.
Drupal forgive me, but I managed to change it periodically with a variety of engines. At different times, I tested / inspected /exhumed the following CMS (the list is incomplete, I could have missed something):
I am not a professional, but this, in my opinion, does not affect the possibility of an in-depth study of each of them.
Each of these engines is very promising in its own way, but I haven’t found in any of those advantages that I found in Drupal:
Competitor An interesting project, which was the first to realize most of what I personally thought of. Here you have music, and videos, and notes, and posters, and events, and reviews ... But personally, I’m not happy with a few parameters that I myself honestly thought about:
Navigation is our everything. Without navigation, it’s difficult to get to any section of the site, unless it’s a one-page page or if the developer didn’t try to provide the userwith a flashlight a navigation unit when they get to the internal pages of the site.
I do not condemn the design - it can be seen what has been done with the soul and the head. But, for example, I would like that when visiting the site there would be no sensation of “academicity”, as if you were in a museum where you can’t touch anything. I want the user to have a place to relax in the evening after class or in the morning before class. So that no one feels constrained while on the site.
That’s exactly what they call things that make life easier for the visitor: the ability to press the button to return to the top of the page instead of furious rotation of the mouse wheel, convenient search, listening to music, registration and authorization through your favorite social networks and so on. I think the comments are superfluous.
On the other hand, there is something to learn:
and much more. I am sure that there are plenty of other pluses, but they are rightly saying among the people: I took up tugs - do not say that not a dozen!
Continuation, namely a selection of modules and libraries is here .

0. Preamble
So why am I starting to create such a project? Because now it’s difficult for a professional musician
- start performing (no stage experience)
- find new, “unstressed” works (this is very much appreciated in specialized institutions)
- listen / watch recordings of other performances (necessary to develop your own manner of performance)
1. The choice of CMS
Drupal forgive me, but I managed to change it periodically with a variety of engines. At different times, I tested / inspected /
- Livestreet
- Joomla
- Oxwall
- Dolphin
- NING
- Instantcms
- Santafox
- Buddypress
- Fruml
- Modx
- Socialengine
- Facebook Clone (or otherwise)
I am not a professional, but this, in my opinion, does not affect the possibility of an in-depth study of each of them.
Each of these engines is very promising in its own way, but I haven’t found in any of those advantages that I found in Drupal:
- security
- extensibility
- scalability
2. Splayn
- lack of basic navigation on internal pages
- again musical instruments!
- "Convenience"
1. Navigation
Navigation is our everything. Without navigation, it’s difficult to get to any section of the site, unless it’s a one-page page or if the developer didn’t try to provide the user
2. Design
3. Usability
- user profile
- site speed (probably works on Perl)
- page layout
and much more. I am sure that there are plenty of other pluses, but they are rightly saying among the people: I took up tugs - do not say that not a dozen!
