The lecture hall launches the MOOC direction

Friends! We went to this damn long 5 years. LETI, ITMO, Polytech and EUSPb are launching their first online courses at the Lectorium. So, we open the registration for the following courses:

    Engineering

St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University (SPbSPU)
    Author: Igor Asonov iasonov

This course is for people who have a craving for physics or mathematics or computer science or the creation of something with their own hands, but at the same time there is a fear of the word "engineer". This course will tell and show what engineering professions are and how they are paid, who the engineer is by nature and what tasks he faces in everyday activities.

    Bionics. Nano cyborgs

    Saint-Petersburg State Electrotechnical University “LETI”
    Author: Angela Andreeva

This course is an opportunity to acquire knowledge in one of the most popular and paid areas of modern science. What does bionics do? This is an actively developing scientific and technical direction, in fact, combining biology and technology. Man has long borrowed his ideas from Nature in everyday life, but bionics embodies them in design solutions and information technology. Cybernetic mechanisms, artificial organs, smart skin, new materials that replicate, and at times surpass their natural counterparts in their properties, are all the realities of modern scientific high-tech production. Currently, bionics has received a significant impetus for new development with the advent of nanotechnology and the miniaturization of created objects. Bionics leads the development of medicine, electronics,

    Sky Mechanics

Saint-Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics (NRU ITMO)
    Author: Alexander Chirtsov

To date, physics has already made many discoveries that have allowed modern technology to send humans into space, launch artificial satellites into near-Earth orbit, and calculate the positions of neighboring planets in our solar system. But on what foundation are these achievements? The calculation of the motion of celestial bodies is performed by celestial mechanics. Knowledge of the laws discovered by Newton, and now is a prerequisite for solving problems of a cosmic scale, in the very literal sense of this expression. In the course you will receive the classic knowledge that makes it possible to launch interplanetary spacecraft and allow researchers and engineers around the world to advance science forward. This six-week course will introduce you to the basic internal laws governing outer space. Celestial mechanics is one of the most interesting branches of physics,

Are you aware that there are Western projects? What audience are these courses for?

We do not want to do second / third / tenth coursera or edx. We want to make a project similar in format, but to a different audience.

A couple of years ago, we found that educational videos, general introduction courses, and first-year lectures are very popular in our media library . We were inundated with letters like “indignant schoolchildren of Taganrog demand to lay out a course of optics”. It turned out that the media library is used, including for career guidance. Students are looking for a university, choose a direction. Bachelors - look at which professor to go to the magistracy. And someone is seriously thinking about graduate school.

And it is for this audience that we are launching this project. The courses described above were originally created for those who are looking for their calling. That is why these courses are deeply authorial, with a very specific manner of teaching. They are read by people who are burning
their own business. They teach because they cannot but teach. And they are looking for associates.

    And universities do not mind?

    Very much for it.

It turned out that there are adequate administrators in universities who understand well that:
    1. MOOC is an image project for an external audience, and not recordings of streaming lectures posted on moodle for university students.
    2. Launching MOOC on its site is obviously a losing business. Although there are enthusiasts to do everything on the basis of the university, but, unfortunately, such projects do not catch up with good traffic.
    3. The course should have at least a thousand students. Otherwise, this is not MOOC

    What format is that inside?

Classic set: videos for 7-10 minutes, tests, tests, communication on the forum, clear deadlines.

Pleasant additions: some universities offer bonuses at the end. For example, an increased scholarship at admission or travel grant. Read more in the course descriptions.

Who is involved in the project?

We attracted funding from the St. Petersburg Presowing Fund and private individuals. Invaluable support is provided by Presidential Lyceum No. 239 (where, in fact, this project was born) and personally by its director Maxim Pratusevich.

    Who takes these courses?

Lectorium Studio was the first studio in Russia to participate in the creation of the course for Coursera. We were honored to record a video in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad for Pavel Pevzner and his team (hello, Kolya Vyakhhi! Vyahhi ). It was a harsh school that we will never forget. But the main thing is that everything turned out well and on time. This bioinformatics course had 30,000 students and was very complex in program. I am sure many Khabrovsk residents remember him.

And then we realized that we could no longer stop. We want to not only shoot lectures for the media library - we want to do academic MOOCs.

Therefore, we removed and unmounted the first courses on our own to set the bar, although in the future we plan to place courses produced by universities.

This is a small video with cutting from different courses, which we are preparing for publication. Not trailers, namely educational videos. They are made to be relevant (both in content and in picture) and after 5 years.

    When is the launch?

We will look at the dynamics of registrations. Part of the courses will be launched in May, part in the fall.

    And who else will join?

We are planning up to 20 universities this year. With some, the production of courses has already begun, but relations are not framed.
How will it be possible to officially declare this - I’ll write right away.

And here is an excellent course on SEO, personal efficiency and sales growth ...

Thanks, do not continue. The cannon-shot lecture hall keeps business trainers out of the way and deals only with serious educational content. We work only with legal entities, all content is checked by expert advice.

    What about the media library?

We will not abandon the music library. We have shot more than 3,000 lectures and will continue to develop this area. The media library has completely different tasks.

If you have questions - write in comments or send me an e-mail somov@239.ru. I will answer everyone.
