Rockstar sued Google

The Rockstar consortium, which includes companies such as Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony and Ericsson, has sued a number of Android smartphone manufacturers: Google, Samsung, LG, ASUS, HTC, Pantech, ZTE and Huawei. They are accused of violating seven patents describing algorithms for substituting advertising messages depending on the user's search query.

In 2011, Google tried to acquire patents owned by Nortel, offering $ 900 million, later several times raising the price to the level of $ 4.4 billion. However, Rockstar offered better conditions and purchased them for $ 4.5 billion in early 2012. After that, Google turned her attention to Motorola and bought it for $ 12.5 billion.

Rockstar claims compensation, and the lawsuit states: “Despite Google’s failure to acquire Nortel’s patents, it violated and continues to violate patents intentionally.” It is noted that in this case, the amount of payments can be significantly increased.

A Google representative declined to give any comments; other participants have not yet commented on the situation.
