Ubuntu Global Jam 13.04 in Novosibirsk

    On March 3, Novosibirsk hosted the Ubuntu Global Jam, organized by the Novosibirsk GNU / Linux user group.
    Ubuntu Global Jam is an event for anyone who would like to gain experience in the development of Free Software. Within the framework of the Ubuntu Global Jam, several reports were devoted to the problems of open source software, and master classes were held on various aspects of the development of the Ubuntu Linux distribution.

    Under the cat, a small report through the eyes of one of the organizers. Unfortunately, I missed this event.


    In the first report, Grigory Koscheev spoke about free software, its advantages, and differences from free and open source software (presentation) .





    Then Alexey Rusetskiy shared his thoughts on the use of Linux in education, and also talked about the progress of the project on introducing Linux in schools.



    After a tea party, Sergey Basalaev showed how to translate programs using Launchpad.





    The workshop, conducted by Maya Kozheva, was about building packages and uploading them to PPA on Launchpad. During the master class, participants had the opportunity to personally go through all the steps necessary to create a new package ( presentation ).



    At the same time as the master class on package assembly, a round table was held, the theme of which was the situation with games in Linux. Participants discussed Steam's release and rated several games available through it.







    The organizers send special greetings to colleagues from Barnaul who visited Ubuntu Global Jam.



    The organizers express great gratitude for the premises provided to the Center for Continuing Education of the Institute of Open Distance Education of the National Pedagogical University in the person of the Director of the Central Educational Center - Zaelenkova Irina Vladimirovna and the Director of IODO - Gizycka Svetlana Alexandrovna. Special thanks to all the speakers and the leaders of the master classes, as well as the team of volunteers who participated in the preparation of the event. And, of course, the organizers are grateful to everyone who took the time and energy to attend the event.
