Panoramic video from the cockpit of a Formula 1 car
Another example of Red Bull sponsorship, besides Felix Baumgartner’s jump from the stratosphere, is shown below - this is an impressive real panoramic (360 °) video shot from a Formula 1 race car at a speed of 322 km / h. The car is driven by the Swiss racer Sebastien Olivier Buemi on the Rudskogen Motorsenter in Norway.
The technology for producing such a video is to use a special ViewCam 360 camera created by Making View, which, using a system of spherical lenses, can receive equirectangular video with a resolution of 4K x 2K and a frame rate of 25-50 fps. Camera weight is about 600 grams, internal memory is 224 GB; camera control is carried out wirelessly.
What the camera looks like and its size can be estimated in the photo below:
To shoot the race track, the camera was mounted behind the pilot and slightly higher, which makes it possible to see the car itself and the race car driver. Apparently, the Habr does not allow to insert a frame from the video, so you can see the video here .
Navigation is carried out either with the mouse, or with the cursor keys.
