Warm tube PDA Palm m105

Without letting the Old Iron hub go into oblivion, I hasten to remind everyone of those pleasant times when there were less megahertz on the table than many in my pocket, and only 16 megahertz felt comfortable in my pocket.

Traffic seems to be not too much, but still - I warned.

    Appearance

Black case. Plastic, which at that time was considered not the coolest, feels much better that goes to modern smartphones. A small black and white screen with a graffiti area at the bottom. Due to the area of graffiti, the perception of the size of the PDA screen was simply cheated. But in fact, there is a touch, but the display is gone. There was also a lid on top, from which only a fixture remained. Six keys that you can program and use in your applications.

A massive cradle was also included with the palm tree, which increased the severity of the look by a factor of two if the palm tree was in it.

    Tough moment

The central processor is Motorolla Dragonball EZ, as many as 16 MHz. Although honestly - even then it was not much.

RAM - 8 megabytes. It was also used for the needs of the file system.

ROM - 2 megabytes. Unfortunately not rewritable.

The screen is resistive, the diagonal is 3 inches. Resolution 160x160 pixels, 16 gradations of gray. The device also has a pleasant green backlight, which does not blind at night and does not illuminate the entire room at once. Which is a plus for me.

External communication - IrDA (which could control the TV) and COM-port.

OS version - PalmOS 3.5.1. Not the newest at that time, but quite sufficient to use the device.

It works on AAA batteries - a plus for me. This allows me to use it and still, without suffering from "transplanting cans" in batteries. I just went to the store and bought two AAA batteries.

The device is especially durable - this is the only touch device that has survived until now, although it fell hard on asphalt and concrete, and that only did not happen to it, but it did not lose its strength. In general, I consider myself one of the most serious crash tests.

By the way, about the stylus - it was plastic and made from one piece of plastic. Many were afraid that it would break off and it would be necessary to buy a new stylus entirely - for 10 years now, but I still have the same stylus. It is light, but it is impossible to use it to reset the palm (there is a small discharge hole behind it).

It was possible to connect a keyboard to a palm tree. But I didn’t have it. What a pity - even now I wouldn’t refuse her.

    Soft moment

Convenience PalmOS I always liked. The system was well developed. The unique interface is in many ways similar to Apple Newton, but in those days no one remembered much about apple pocket devices. The OS itself did not pull the Russian language out of the box. But with a palm tree in the kit was a disk with software, among which was a licensed crack from Paragon. The disk has been lost, and I still use a palm tree - I changed the crack to CyrHack.

One of the musthave programs for the palm tree was and remains FastCPU - it allowed to overclock and slow down the processor. In my palm, everything except games works at the minimum frequency, and games at 32 megahertz.

Speaking of games. At one time, there were already quite a few written time killers for palm trees. Almost for every taste and color. There are even "bagels".

Or for Nintendo fans there is a free Game boy emulator (I sold the real one not so long ago) - Phoenix. With an overclocked processor, you can play without feeling inconvenience. Having assigned keys more conveniently, with the exception of start and select (they remain on the screen).

The main use for me of a palm tree is to read books from it. You can of course buy an e-book. But is it necessary? Mostly I read all the same paper books, and those cases when I read electronic - then the palm copes with a bang. I read using the iSilo reader, although it is not the only one, they say there is better.

A set of standard applications - I apologize for the tautology - is standard. There is also a reminder-planner, and a phone book, and a calculator, and To-Do, and notes (both alphabetic and handwritten)

I remember that at one time I even used some simple mathematical package on it, often flew to Void (an elite-shaped cosmos) and saved the kingdom in the local port of King's Bounty. There were programming languages that allowed you to write without using a big brother.

In terms of communication with my big brother, here I use JPilot, which is found in almost every Linux repository. Perhaps the program is not the best, so it solves the needs that arise when using a palm tree. The role of the COM port is performed by my gambird cable. Just because it is, but on the laptop there is no COM port.

    PS

For those who are curious - the guitar in the photo is Danelectro U2 1st Reissue, the lamps are domestic - 6H2P, 6P14P, 6N6P. And I apologize for the quality of the photo.
