Javascript conference

On Saturday , February 18, 2012 , EPAM Systems, in its central Kiev office, organized and held a conference dedicated to JavaScript - one of the most dynamically developing platforms to date. The conference attracted the attention of many Ukrainian developers - the hall was packed to capacity, and those who could not attend in person watched the event online. First of all, this was facilitated by reports on current topics of JS development, both from the client applications and from the server.

The conference was opened by her welcoming address HR Director - Olesya Kirilchuk .
Then Eldar Jafarov talked about Node.js, an increasingly popular server-side JavaScript engine.
Denis Radinshowed how to organize the assembly, and delivery to the server of complex JavaScript projects using Gragle.
Aleksey Khristov touched on one of the most serious topics - unit testing of client-side JavaScript code. Alexey examined several frameworks, and gave many useful recommendations on how to arrange the process of writing tests.
Vladimir Kirillov made a report in which he showed techniques for debugging and optimizing server applications using dtrace. A rather exotic, but very effective way, especially when it comes to a running server application that cannot be stopped. Vladimir's report was accompanied by a lively presentation.

After traditional talks, it's time for Lightning Talks- short 7-minute performances. Go to the microphone and talk about their experience decided to as many as 12 people. We talked about everything, starting from the benefits of Open Source projects for developing developer skills, to rather exotic topics like applications for television set-top boxes and sound processing using a browser. I would especially like to note the report of Timofei Babich, representative of the Mozilla Foundation, who spoke about the development strategy of Firefox and shared wonderful souvenirs with the browser logo (a couple of stickers with a fox were immediately on the laptop covers, instead of the standard Dell and HP logos).

In between reports, EPAM Systems organized several contests. To begin with, the participants tried to guess how much the EPAM stock cost at the end of the 1st day of trading on an IPO. With this simple question, Olesya began a very pleasant tradition of handing to the smartest conference participant a tropical fruit, this time a prize - pineapple. In the lunch break, when everyone had a snack with sandwiches, the participants were faced with another pleasant surprise - a lottery. The owners of the “lucky numbers” got prizes that were useful for each developer: a laptop stand, a certificate for 1000 hryvnias to the Rosetka electronics store and a terabyte removable disk.

The initiator of the event was Yuri Bura- The organizer of the Ukrainian group of JavaScript developers. In a few weeks, he helped us create a website for registration, organize a video broadcast, and draw up a conference timeline. At the end of the event, some of the participants went to the after party in the Chest, where they continued to communicate, but in an informal setting, having a beer and a billiard table.

EPAM was pleased to provide the JavaScript user group with a venue for this conference. A platform for meetings of this kind is now available to everyone. If you have an idea for a conference, a development club, a hackathon, or any other event related to IT, EPAM will be happy to arrange comfortable communication in both formal and informal settings.
