Talk, Me Robots, Spies, and Entropy

Art is actively moving from static forms and designs to the field of ideas and innovations, where it intersects with physics, mathematics, biology, philosophy and many other sciences. So, on July 24, the unique Talk ot Me exhibition will open at the New York Museum of Modern Art . It will feature a variety of exhibits from around the world - from interfaces to furniture, the development of scientists, designers, artists and students. For many months, the organizers of the exhibition hunted for the most interesting innovative ideas, traveled around the world in their search, explored and wondered.
This weekend, Talk to Me organizers arrived in Moscow. As part of the LINT (Life in Technology) conference in Digital October  on Red October a presentation of the project took place. The representative of the Agency for Innovation and Development participated in the event and, in the same way, researched and was surprised. We will talk about several exhibits of the future exhibition.

Most of all, of course, are robots and robotic mechanisms.

For example, such a Robot / People  a cute cardboard kid with a flag (apparently not to be trampled on), he skates the streets of New York, constantly runs into people and all kinds of obstacles. The idea of this performance is whether passers-by will be distracted from their affairs and thoughts in order to help the robot cross the road or direct it on the right path. According to Kacie Kinzer, the author of the Robot / People idea, it’s wrong that the city exists only to move from point A to point B. Sometimes it’s worth stopping by and notice a small helpless cardboard man underfoot.

An old receiver sneezing with dust, a detachable touch wheel, and a lamp bouncing when trying to get closer to it. These are objects invented by Attenborough Design Bureau. Designers are trying to instill the habits of animals with ordinary household objects, from which they do not expect reflex reactions. It turns out unexpectedly and very funny.

Another invention from the family of robots is a set of multi-colored DIY cubes from Modular Robotics . You can assemble your robot of any shape and it will perform simple actions. Some dice have light, motion, sound, and temperature sensors. So the robot can roll around the table, escaping from your hands, respond to sounds or hide from the light.

It seems that it was precisely the endless jokes about girls who can’t find the phone in their own bag that prompted the inventor Ross Atkin to develop MessSearch (literally, “search engine for a mess”). The object was made as part of the Entropy project.. This is a hand-held scanner that determines which item is in front of it, and if the item meets the stated search conditions (for example, this is a phone) - it sends a sound signal to the hostess. It remains to make the scanner more miniature and tied to mobile platforms. It will be the perfect gift for a girl. The main thing is not to lose it in the bag.

The project also has its own “sandbox” called Queue. Interesting objects are collected there, which have not yet been included in the main list. For example, AppleTalk is a witty joke by programmer Jürg Lehni, who came up with two Mac Pros to stand in front of each other. Using two microphones, as well as software for voice recognition and translating it into text, the two machines talk endlessly with each other, translate the written text into speech and vice versa on the principle of a “damaged phone”. Sometimes poppies make very poetic mistakes and it’s fun to watch them.
