Parrot

I have one client who has a corporate website. He actively uses his site to promote the services of the company and constantly changes something in it (to be precise, he asks me to change), moves menu items, changes the names of items, sizes, lowers something higher, something lower, something removes, something adds. Observing and directly participating in all this navigational whistle, which was supposed to make the site more convenient and efficient, I came up with the idea of navigation similar to a tag cloud. The working title is either a fun version of “scare” (from the words “popular” and “navigation”), or the more serious UGN (User Generated Navigation).

The main idea is that the menu items automatically change the order and sizes based on how often users click on them. Those. if people most often click on the link “products”, then it automatically becomes the first in the menu and the largest font, and then in descending order, while you can display only the 5 most popular menu items (or submenus if there are several levels of navigation), and for example, let’s hide the rest in the drop-down paragraph “other links” (and there you can sort by popularity).

For sorting, you can use the ant algorithm so that users, like ants, themselves lay the optimal paths on the site, and at the same time it remains sensitive to changes in user behavior.

In addition, it would be interesting to make a system of end-to-end passages between pages. For example, if the users from page A, as a result of the transition chain, often appear on page B, then on page A it would be possible to automatically generate a large link leading directly to page B. The thought of through moves came to my mind when I noticed that during work, I very often go between the same folders located in different places, and it would be convenient in each of these folders to immediately have a shortcut linking to another destination folder in order to reduce the number of intermediate transitions.

It will be necessary to try to apply a parrot and pass-through moves on some website (for example, online stores are in my opinion good for this).
